The Lifeguard of the Year Award acknowledges the unwavering commitment and dedication to creating a safer environment through their diligent duties and preventative action and/or celebrates the exceptional lifeguard who has displayed remarkable expertise, bravery, and commitment in saving a life through a water rescue, administering first aid, performing CPR, or any other emergency response action that resulted in a positive outcome. This prestigious award honours a lifeguard who exemplifies excellence in the essential qualities of a lifeguard, including exceptional rescue skills, sound decision-making under pressure, and effective communication abilities and they consistently upholding the highest standards of lifeguarding.

Preventative Lifeguarding Excellence
*
Describe how the lifeguard consistently demonstrates excellence in preventative lifeguarding. Including information on active supervision, scanning techniques, hazard identification, patron education, early intervention, risk assessment, preventing incidents before they occur, and vigilance.
Emergency Response and Decision Making

Describe how the lifeguard demonstrated outstanding emergency response skills during the past 12 months. A rescue is NOT required to be eligible for this award. Preventative actions that avoided an incident are equally valued. Provide their actions towards any rescue, first aid incidents, CPR, spinal management, emergency coordination, decision-making, incident management and communication.
Customer Service and Communication

Describe how the lifeguard creates a safe, welcoming and positive experiences for patrons. Provide examples on their customer service, patron education, conflict resolution, public communication, professionalism, positive interactions, inclusion.
Safety Leadership and Team Contribution

Describe how the lifeguard positively contributes to the wider lifeguard team. Providing information on their ability to be a mentor, supporting new staff, toolbox talks, safety suggestions, teamwork, leadership and incident reviews.
Professional Development

Describe how the lifeguard continually develops their knowledge and professional skills. Provide information regarding their attendance to in-house training session, other training scenarios or simulations, industry conference/workshops, emergency exercises and additional certifications.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement

Describe any initiatives the lifeguard has introduced to improve safety, operations or customer experience. Examples such as new procedures, training improvements safety campaigns, technology risk reduction, process improvements.
