    We are honoured to celebrate our partnership with Te Kupenga Hauora and acknowledge their support of a Social Work scholarship.

     

    Overview

    Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri provides annual scholarships to support tauira in the final year of study within programmes that align with the partnership’s strategic priorities and workforce development aspirations. These scholarships are designed to encourage and support future professionals who will contribute to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

    Scholarship Categories

    The scholarships honour two founding members of Te Kupenga Hauora and recognise their significant contributions to the partnership and community:

    • Marjorie Te Maari Joe Scholarship – Bachelor of Social Work (Year 3)
    • Audrey Robin Scholarship – Bachelor of Nursing (Year 3)
       

     

    Scholarship value

    Each scholarship is valued at $5,000 NZD and may be used to assist with:

    • Tuition fees
    • Accommodation costs
    • Living expenses
    • Study-related costs and resources

    The scholarship is intended to reduce financial barriers and support recipients to successfully complete their studies.

     

    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for a Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri Scholarship, applicants must:

    • Be enrolled in the final year of either the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Social Work programme.
    • Be a domestic student studying at EIT.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to improving health and wellbeing outcomes within whānau, hapū, iwi, and communities of Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay.
    • Show academic commitment and satisfactory progress within their programme of study.
    • Demonstrate leadership, community involvement, or service that aligns with the values and aspirations of Te Kupenga Hauora.
    • Intend to contribute to the health, social services, or community workforce following graduation.
    • Be available to attend a scholarship presentation event if requested.

     

    Desirable Attributes

    Preference may be given to applicants who:

    • Have whakapapa connections to Ngāti Kahungunu or other iwi represented within the Te Kupenga Hauora partnership.
    • Demonstrate financial need.
    • Have actively contributed to Māori health, social services, or community initiatives.
    • Plan to work within the Hawke's Bay region following completion of their studies.

     

    Application Outcome:

    The granting of the scholarship will be assessed by a panel comprising of members of Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri and EIT.

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome by phone and/or email by Monday, 21st August 2026.

    The recipient of the Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Social Work) Scholarship will be invited to a celebratory morning tea at EIT. The recipient will be advised of the details once they've been notified of their award.

  • TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    1. The scholarship offers up to $5,000, which can be used for tuition fees, books, and other educational expenses.
    2. Recipients must be willing to complete a placement at Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri as part of this scholarship.
    3. The scholarship is non-transferable, meaning it cannot be used for another programme, education provider, or other persons.
    4. The scholarship recipient may be required to complete promotional tasks for EIT and Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri. This includes allowing the use of their photograph and a written student profile for publications and website use. As an ambassador of EIT, recipients may also be invited to assist with future events, such as Open Days hosted by the EIT Engagement Team.
    5. Recipients of the Te Maari Joe & Audrey Robin (Social Work) Scholarship must meet the eligibility criteria outlined above.
    6. The Scholarship Panel reserves the right to terminate the scholarship for poor academic performance, inappropriate conduct, or failure to meet scholarship requirements. If the recipient withdraws or is expelled, they must refund the grant unless special dispensation is granted by EIT and Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri.
