Anyone who does not have a bachelor's degree or higher must receive equivalency credit for forty-nine (49) undergraduate courses to be considered for entrance into a Master's program.
You can accomplish this by submitting equivalency requests below with an explanation of your practical experience or proving an existing knowledge-base.
Regardless of ministry experience, everyone must submit seven (7) mandatory equivalency requests for the following undergraduate courses: Biblical Inerrancy, Catechism, Church History, Hermeneutics, Modern Monk, School of the Prophets, and Systematic Theology.
You must also submit equivalency requests for the remaining forty-two (42) courses unless you have prior ministry experience as explained below:
If you have ministry experience you can decrease the number of requests required as we consider each year of ministry to be the competency equivalent of three courses.
If you have one (1) Year of Ministry Experience, you need to submit the seven (7) mandatory Equivalency Requests and an additional forty-one (41) Equivalency Requests.
5 Years = submit the 7 mandatory and an additional 27 equivalency requests
10 Years = submit the 7 mandatory and an additional 12 equivalency requests
14+ Years of Ministry Experience = submit only the 7 mandatory requests
Practical Experience
If you want to provide practical experience as competence equivalency, then for each course you must indicate and explain why your ministry serves as a practical competency equivalent in the Competency Context Box. Be as detailed and specific as possible, addressing the following:
1) What ministry roles/responsibilities have given you experience in this area?
2) Practical application: How have you actually applied this content in ministry? Lessons, sermons, discipleship, leadership, etc.
Knowledge-Based
If you want to prove an existing knowledge-base as competence equivalency, aka "Test Out," then for each course you must indicate and explain the scope, breadth, and depth of your prior learning in the Competency Context Box. Be as detailed and specific as possible, addressing the following:
1) TheosU course videos you've watched.
2) Personal study and formation: What books have you read, conferences/trainings have you attended, and self-directed studies have shaped your understanding of the subject?
3) What are the primary pieces of information you consider foundational to this topic, and why/how does the information form you as a believer?
4) If you have completed this course at Theos Seminary or another institution, enter "Completed at [Name of Institution]" in the Competency Content box. If you completed the course at an institution other than Theos Seminary, be sure to upload your transcript(s) at the bottom of this form OR email them to admin@theosseminary.com and dean@theosseminary.com. Be sure to include 'Competency Equivalency for Masters program' in the subject line.
