What is this?
Ditch your smart phone for a dumb phone and join a cohort of neighbors for weekly meetups, creative challenges, and mutual encouragement. As a group, we'll explore our current relationship with technology and what we could do to make it better.
It's part happy hour, part support group, part classroom.
This is the very first cohort in Austin! We'll be loosely following the curriculum developed by Month Offline in Washington, D.C..
Where/When?
TBD - I'll update this form when I have more details. We'll be meeting for five weeks starting in September 2026. Our meetings will have this basic format:
Week 1: Communication
Week 2: Memory
Week 3: Navigation
Week 4: Boredom & Creativity
Week 5: Graduation
How much does it cost?
Our group is free, and run by a volunteer (me). You can choose to purchase a dumb phone through Dumb.co or you can bring your own. The Dumb.co phones come with some nice features like Microsoft 2FA and text forwarding from your smartphone, but you're more than welcome to bring your device!
How do I get a dumb phone?
- Order one from Dumb.co. If you want to do this, please don't order yet! I'll send you a discount code first!
- Fish grandma's old phone from your dusty kitchen drawer
- Buy your own from your favorite retailer
How big will the group be?
I have no idea since this is the first group, but I'm planning on 8 to 12 people.
What can I expect from our weekly meetings?
Each meeting will be a group discussion centered around exploring life outside of screens, tapping into our creativity, and finding more joy and presence in our lives. They could involve snacks or drinks as well, depending on the vibe!
This is the very first chapter in Austin, so we'll all be navigating this journey on equal footing. As a participant you can help shape this group and our time together!
