  • Journey to My Better Self Workforce Development

  • This 10-week PAID program is for youth/young adults, ages 16-24. The program includes job skills development and an internship. This unique program helps give participants the skills needed to obtain and maintain a job.

  • PROGRAM INFORMATION

  • PHASE I-Career Development (30 hours / 4 weeks)
    Job Readiness Workshops - During the first four weeks, youth will participate in face-to-face workshops designed to provide them with soft skills training in order to increase employability in a short amount of time. The workshops are comprised of modules on resume writing, job search and interview techniques, professionalism, workplace conflict resolution, financial management, and job retention.

  • PHASE II - Internship (60 hours / 6 weeks)
    Workplace Training - During the second phase of the program, participants will be assisted in obtaining and maintaining a six-week workplace internship.

  • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is the application procedure?
    To apply to the Career Academy, a registrant must submit a completed registration form. Once the form is received, the registrant will be notified of the application status.

  • How much is the program stipend, and when will the stipend be disbursed?
    Participants receive a stipend of $1,250. The first disbursement ($200) will be after the completion of Phase I. The remaining three disbursements will be every two weeks ($350) until the completion of Phase II.

  • What are the grounds for dismissal?
    The grounds for dismissal are not limited to the following and will be left to the discretion of the participant's supervisor and/or coach: falsifying timesheets, being at work under the influence of illegal substances or alcohol, theft or inappropriate uses of resources, harassment of other employees or participants, endangering the safety of colleagues or other participants, exhibiting insubordinate/disruptive behavior, and refusal or failure to perform assigned tasks or adhere to program policies.

  • Do I have to complete the entire program to be eligible for the stipend?
    Yes. Stipends are awarded at specific benchmarks of the program. No stipend will be administered if program phases are not completed.

  • What does the Career Academy offer?
    The Career Academy provides valuable workforce development skills; this increases each participant's ability to obtain permanent, part-time and/or full-time job placement.

  • Is job placement guaranteed? No. However, the Career Academy program specialist and workforce coaches work together to assist each participant in obtaining permanent part- or full-time job placement.
