• Homework & Heartwork

  • Homework & Heartwork is a therapeutic rehabilitation program for children and adolescents with mental health and behavioral health needs. The program provides structured after-school support through emotional regulation groups, coping-skills development, social skills practice, problem-solving activities, relationship-building, and supervised homework assistance. Homework support is included, but the primary purpose of the program is to help youth build the skills needed to function successfully at home, at school, and in the community.

    The Bowling Green program operates Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and follows the Bowling Green Independent School District calendar for holidays and weather-related closures.

    The Franklin/Simpson County program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Simpson Elementary School. This location follows the Simpson County Schools calendar for holidays, weather-related closures, and all other non-instructional days.

  • 1. Program Overview
    Homework & Heartwork is an after school program focused on building brains, confidence, and emotional intelligence through academic support, social skills practice, problem-solving activities, and daily emotional regulation groups. The program is designed for youth who benefit from structured support after school, blending educational help with therapeutic skill-building.
    By enrolling in this program, you are agreeing to receive therapy, case management, and peer support services as part of your participation.


    2. Schedule & Location
    The program operates Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM during the school year.
    All sessions are held at 207 College Street, Bowling Green, KY 42014 unless otherwise specified.
    Occasional special events or field trips may take place off-site; families will be notified in advance.

    3. Eligibility & Enrollment
    Participants must be covered by Medicaid unless otherwise approved for a non-Medicaid opening.
    All Medicaid participants must have prior authorizations approved before starting services.
    Non-Medicaid spaces are limited and may require an out-of-pocket payment arrangement.
    Participants must be able to participate safely in group settings.

    4. Attendance Policy
    Commitment to attending the full schedule is preferred for best results.
    You must attend three days per week or it will result in the forfeiture of your spot in the program. You will be able to return to the waitlist after this occurrence, and readmission will be considered based on space and program needs.
    Consistent attendance supports academic and social progress.
    Please notify staff in advance of any absences.

    5. Participant Expectations
    Show respect to peers, staff, and property.
    Follow program rules, routines, and staff directions.
    Engage in homework time, group discussions, and activities to the best of their ability.
    Refrain from disruptive or unsafe behavior, as well as physical and verbal aggression toward staff and other students. 

    6. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
    Ensure timely arrival and pick-up.
    Provide homework assignments, school notices, or academic materials as needed.
    Communicate with staff about academic or behavioral concerns at home and at school.
    Provide any necessary medications before arrival, as ACTION, Inc. staff do not dispense or administer medications.

    7. Food & Beverages
    Daily snacks and drinks are provided during program hours.
    Meals are not provided; please ensure your child eats lunch prior to attending.

    8. Confidentiality
    ACTION, Inc. staff maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable laws.
    While staff encourage privacy, we cannot control what other participants may share outside of the group.

    9. Safety
    Unsafe, aggressive, or threatening behavior may result in removal from the group for the day.
    Continued unsafe behavior will require a meeting to determine program placement.
