SMART Rail and Pathway Northern Extension from Windsor to Cloverdale
Project Location: Town of Windsor to City of Healdsburg, unincorporated Sonoma County, including the community of Geyserville, and the City of Cloverdale
Description: This Project would expand SMART’s passenger rail service to extend from its existing terminus in the Town of Windsor to City of Healdsburg, unincorporated Sonoma County, including the community of Geyserville, and the City of Cloverdale. The Project includes the nearly 9-mile Windsor to Healdsburg North segment and the 13.1-mile segment from the Healdsburg city limits through Geyserville to Cloverdale. The possibility of a station exists in unincorporated Sonoma County at Geyserville. The Healdsburg North segment includes nearly 9-miles of Class IV mainline track, six bridges, up to five freight spurs with systems, necessary upgrades to SMART’s dispatch system and rail operations center, one station with amenities, gauntlet tracks at the station to accommodate freight train passage, at-grade crossings, a paved non-motorized bicycle/pedestrian facility, new broadband capacity for public agencies/schools, and federally mandated PTC. The Geyserville/Cloverdale segment includes 13.1-miles of Class IV mainline track, a freight spur with systems, up to two stations with amenities, rail yard improvements, at-grade crossings (several of which will be evaluated for consolidation), a non-motorized bicycle/pedestrian facility that will meet Great Redwood Trail design guidelines, new broadband capacity for public agencies/schools and federally mandated PTC.
