SOUL OF MEMPHIS Songwriter Competition Registration

This is a song writing and singing competition. Songs will be evaluated based on lyrics, vocals, melody, likability, overall composition, and various other musical considerations. Scoring is as follows:

75% Pre-Judging of online submissions by guest industry judges.
25% Live Audience Vote at the event.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and close at 5:00 PM CDT exactly one week before each round, or when the 12 spots are filled — whichever comes first. Early submissions are strongly encouraged.

All songs must be original and may only be submitted by the songwriter(s). Songs that have previously won 1st place in any other songwriting competition are not eligible. Songs that have been entered into other competitions but did not win are permitted. The songwriter(s) must own or control all rights to the song.

Confirmation of acceptance into a round will be sent to you via email/text no less than one week before the round. You must confirm you will participate within 24 hours or the spot will be given to the next person. NO HOLDS.

One winner per round. If you win a round and advance to the showcase, you are ineligible to enter another round.

An MP3 file or a direct URL link of the submitted song is required. RIVY Music Group is not responsible for broken, private or otherwise invalid links. Please double-check URL links before entering to avoid disqualification. Songs will not be evaluated on recording quality, however, we do require the song to be clearly audible in the recording for pre-judging.

I certify that the submitted song is 100% original and I (we) own or control all rights. It does not infringe any copyrights or third-party rights. The submitted song has not won first place in any other songwriting competitions. I (we) grant the organizers of RIVY Music Group and the SOUL OF MEMPHIS Singer-Songwriter Competition permission to use excerpts of the submitted song for promotional purposes related to the competition. I (we) understand that use of a co-written song without the express permission of another co-writer will result in being disqualified and ineligible to compete again. We intentionally keep eligibility as open as possible because singer-songwriters in Memphis and beyond are often employed, involved, or connected in various aspects of the music industry. We believe it to be unfair to exclude talented creators simply because they are intertwined in the broader music community as performers, educators, session musicians, employees, related to or in other roles that restrict eligibility. Everyone deserves a chance to share their original work and be recognized for their talent and efforts, including affiliates of Rivy Music Group. We believe in the integrity and impartiality of the judging process and ensure participants that the judges selected will be held to such standards. Individuals serving as judges for online submissions of a specific round may not compete in that same round but are eligible to compete in other rounds.
