Annual Award Categories
Optometric Physician of the Year - This award recognizes a deserving individual Doctor of Optometry for the performance of outstanding services on behalf of the profession and to the visual welfare of the public. The Optometrist must be an OAOP member in good standing. Criteria for consideration:
1. Public Service
2. Service to the Visual Welfare of the Public
3. Service to Optometry
4. Service to the OAOP or AOA
Young Optometric Physician of the Year - This award recognizes an OD who is in his/her first decade of practice and who shows leadership skills when serving their profession, their patients, and their community. The nominee must be an OAOP member in good standing and be in active optometric practice for 10 years or less (including residency or fellowship). Criteria for consideration:
1. Public Service
2. Service to the Visual Welfare of the Public
3. Service to the OAOP or AOA
Distinguished Service Award - This award recognizes an Optometrist who has served and has distinguished himself/herself within the profession for unusually significant contributions and outstanding achievements contributing to the advancement of the profession of optometry. This award recognizes long-term dedication rather than any single contribution. Criteria for consideration:
1. Service to Optometry
2. Special Service
3. Service to the OAOP or AOA
