𼞠Desert Walking Safety: Tips for the Season
Walking in the desert is incredibly beautiful, but it can be equally challenging as trails are often fully exposed with little to no shade. The sun doesnât just bake you from above; it radiates intense heat right back up from the ground and surrounding rocks.Â
âď¸ Essential Safety Reminders:
Real Feel vs. Forecast: Be cautiousâa temperature reading of 70°F in the shade can easily feel like 90°F or more in the direct sun. Take it slow when you first start out. Hydration & Fuel: Bring at least one liter of water for every three miles.Â
Listen to Your Body: If you start to feel nauseous or lightheaded, turn back immediately. Heat exhaustion and sunstroke can become life-threatening very quickly.
Gear Up: Wear proper, sturdy walking boots or shoes for the rocky terrain.Â
The scenery in the Valley is absolutely incredible, and I want you to enjoy every bit of it. Above all, we want you to be safe out there!
Note on upcoming group trips: I will send out specific details 3â4 days in advance of our outings. Our weather, temperatures, and air quality can be highly variable, so we will always check conditions right before we go. Take good care of your body, and see you on the trail!
