This fall, the Youth Film Program is launching THREE exciting new sessions designed to give young filmmakers ages 10-17 in the Prescott/Quad City AZ area a real hands-on foundation in the craft, whether they're just starting out or coming back to sharpen their skills. Offered as both an after-school program and ESA-approved homeschool classes, each course pairs professional-grade equipment with a curriculum built to grow real communication and entrepreneurial skills for the digital age.
ESA Classes: In addition to our after school program, The Youth Film Program is proud to be a verified ESA vendor through ClassWallet, allowing Prescott-area families to use their ESA for our extended four-hour daytime Tuesday classes — giving homeschool learners more time and more hands-on experience with every subject.
All Fall classes will take place in our downtown Prescott media studio at 126 N Marina St.

How the Program Works
In each intensive session, students will learn to use industry-standard digital cinema cameras, lights, greenscreens, and industry-standard software tools. Each participant will cycle through different roles — director, camera operator, sound, and talent — so everyone gets experience in front of and behind the camera. Each day will be filled with practical exercises and filmmaker challenges that will push each filmmaker to try new things as they gain experience and expertise in different aspects of filmmaking.
This is a “Group-Based” Program with each group of filmmakers responsible for various aspects of the filmmaking process. These groups will be mixed ages/genders. Students will have the opportunity to perform multiple jobs during the program.
Parent Participation
Our program relies on collaboration and partnership with the families and communities of our student filmmakers. The YFP will provide the equipment, guidance, and studio space for filming, but it will be up to parents to help their filmmakers’ team acquire costumes, props, and do any preparations needed between classes.
Your student may need your assistance at home to access Google Docs, rehearse their lines, make/find costumes/props, and facilitate group communication between students/parents.
Filmmaking is “Problem-Solving”
Students will need to be able to compromise, adjust their creative vision, and incorporate other people’s ideas as a result of real-world filming logistics or creative studio guidance. Students are expected to work together with students of all ages and backgrounds, be respectful, cooperative, participate in the filming activities, find ways to contribute, come to class/set prepared, and be able to complete tasks with or without direct supervision.
Code of Conduct
Discipline problems, refusal to participate, roughhousing, bullying, malicious destruction of property, and verbal or physical threats will not be tolerated. The YFP reserves the right to expel a student at any time, for any reason.
