New England GBW: A Question of Scale Call for Submission

Bookbinding photographs can tend to mimic the sterile white box of the modern art gallery—while it’s great to put all the focus of a photograph on your binding, it’s generally not a very exciting photo! For the New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Worker’s online exhibition “A Question of Scale”, we are asking for your most creative photos of a recent binding. Do you want to emphasize your binding’s size? Color? A texture? Step outside of the covers and compose your most creative photograph yet!

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for between 1 and 3 high resolution photos that showcase your binding in a unique way, to be compiled and shared online.

These photos must:

• Show off a binding—you can create a binding specifically for this, or you can revisit an old favorite.
• Use an object in the composition that gives a sense of scale to your book—i.e. a stick of chapstick, spool of thread, or a straight edge.

You must be an active GBW member.

Important Dates

Deadline for Registration: September 21, 2026

Submission Period: July 13th-September 21, 2026

Exhibit opening on NEGBW Website: October 9, 2026

For each exhibited item please include: 

• Title of Work
• Artist & Collaborators Names (if applicable)
• Details about exhibited Item: Author, Illustrator, Printer (please indicate if the contents are your own)
• Dimensions (HxWxD)
• Sale Price (if applicable)
• # of Images

Cancellation Policy
