Position Summary
Home Care Aides provide compassionate personal care and support to clients in their homes. Working for DAHCA, HCAs support Medi-Cal/GCHP beneficiaries through our Personal Care and Health Services (PCHS) and Respite Care programs. HCAs assist with activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), and provide companionship and emotional support. The role requires physical stamina, empathy, professional conduct, and commitment to client safety and dignity.
Core Responsibilities
• Provide ADL assistance: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, eating, ambulation
• Provide IADL support: meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, errands
• Observe and report client status/condition changes to supervisor
• Assist with medication reminders (as authorized)
• Maintain clear, timely documentation in AlayaCare (EVV system)
• Follow care plans and supervisor instructions precisely
• Use safety practices and body mechanics to prevent injuries
• Maintain client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
• Communicate professionally with clients, families, and DAHCA staff
• Report concerns or incidents to supervisor immediately
Required Qualifications
• Valid California HCA (Home Care Aide) license
• Current CPR/First Aid certification
• Negative tuberculosis screening
• Passed background clearance (DOJ/FBI fingerprinting)
• Ability to communicate in English (verbal and basic written)
• Reliable transportation to client homes
• Reliable access to smartphone/internet for AlayaCare EVV system
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in home care or long-term care setting
• Training or experience with dementia care, disability support, or behavioral health
• Bilingual (English + Spanish or other language helpful for client communication)
Physical Requirements
• Frequent lifting/transferring (up to 50 lbs, may need equipment assistance)
• Prolonged standing and walking
• Bending, stooping, reaching
• Fine motor skills (dressing, grooming, note-taking)
• Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends/holidays if needed

• Safety: Zero tolerance for substance use, abuse, or unsafe practices
• Reporting: Immediate notification of incidents, client concerns, or unsafe situations
• Professional Development: Openness to supervisor feedback and training
