  • Legend has it that when Titus returned to Rome after quelling the rebellion in Judea and destroying the Temple, he brought 100,000 people with him as slaves. The first port he landed at was in Bari, the main city in Puglia, where he left 5000 Jews. This became the first Jewish community in Italy.
