Hello, my name is Gabby, also known as @tufavebachatera on Instagram ;). I've been dancing bachata for about 5 years. I am organizing this event because I am interested in creating an intentional and community practice that celebrates the roots and history of bachata, which is an intangible cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic.
While I personally identify as African American, my introduction to bachata came from Carribean and Dominican people in Florida, the DMV, New York, and the Dominican Republic. I have noticed that while there are Dominicans here in Atlanta, the bachata scene does not currently have many opportunities to dance "traditional"/"dominican"/"authentic" bachata. I'm not an authority on bachata, but I do love it. I can identify many connections between it and my personal cultural and musical background.
The goal is to create a flipped, low-pressure classroom environment for collaborative learning. I want to focus on the FUNdamentals of bachata and couple connection. I attended and passed the Bachata Instructor Certification Course for Beginners taught by Alex and Desiree.
Although I am just starting out as a bachata instructor, I mention this so that you can trust that I know a little bit of what I am talking about :). However, I would like to emphasize that I am always learning new things about bachata, and I hope that you can join me and that we can learn from each other.
