  • Section 3: Academic Integrity & Responsible AI Use

Yamei Academy recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly part of modern life and learning. We understand the pressures students may face to use AI, and we do not judge or shame students for choosing to use these tools. At the same time, we do not endorse, require, or advocate for AI use. It is a personal choice—but with that choice comes personal responsibility.

We also acknowledge that AI detection tools are imperfect. We do not run student work through AI detectors, nor do we rely on any software to identify AI-generated content. Instead, we trust our teachers' professional judgment, our knowledge of each student's voice and abilities, and our commitment to honest conversation. Our focus is on transparency, original thinking, and academic integrity—not on policing with imperfect technology.

Students who choose to use AI must do so responsibly, ethically, and with full disclosure when required.

    3.1 Permitted Uses of AI

    • Using AI translation tools to assist with understanding non-native language materials
    • Using AI to help brainstorm, organize ideas, or outline thoughts
    • Using AI to assist with research and data analysis (must fact-check with reliable sources)
    • Using AI for grammar checking, proofreading, or editing a fully student-written draft (students must review and understand all changes)

    3.2 Prohibited Uses of AI

    • Copying AI-generated content directly and submitting it as your own work
    • Using AI to complete analysis, writing, or problem-solving that should be performed independently
    • Submitting AI-assisted assignments, reports, or answers without explicit teacher permission
    • Incorporating AI-generated text into your work without proper citation
    • Expecting the School to rewrite or "de-AI" AI-generated student work

    3.3 Student Responsibility & Consequences

Students bear full responsibility for all work they submit. When using AI tools, students must honestly disclose such use to their teacher upon request. Any attempt to pass off AI-generated content as one's own original work constitutes academic dishonesty (plagiarism) and will be addressed according to this Code of Conduct.

Consequences may include: a zero on the assignment, a parent conference, a formal disciplinary record, and in severe cases, suspension or dismissal from the school.

3.4 School Not Responsible for AI Remediation

Students who choose to use AI tools without proper disclosure or in violation of this policy assume full responsibility for the originality and authenticity of their submitted work.

The School is not responsible for:

    • Rewriting, editing, or reducing AI similarity in student work
    • Editing, paraphrasing, or restructuring AI-generated content submitted by students
    • Providing alternative assignments or extensions when a student's AI-generated submission is flagged or rejected
    • Guiding students on how to bypass or lower AI detection scores

If a teacher has concerns about the authenticity of a student's work:

    • The teacher will have a conversation with the student to discuss their process and understanding
    • The student may be asked to explain their work, provide drafts, or complete a similar assignment in a proctored setting
    • The student is responsible for re-submitting an original, student-authored version independently if the work is found to be in violation

    In cases of repeat violations:

    • The student may be required to complete all future assignments in a proctored environment or in-person to verify authenticity
    • Additional disciplinary consequences may apply as outlined in Section 3.3

  • Section 4: Reporting Violations & Whistleblower Protection

Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to report any violations of this Code of Conduct. Yamei Academy prohibits retaliation against any individual who reports in good faith.

    Reporting Options:

    • Speak directly with a teacher, counselor, or administrator
      Email:
      • sgao@yameiacademy.org
      • axiang@yameiacademy.org
      • esebring@yameiacademy.org

  • Section 5: Acknowledgment & Agreement
