  • OVERVIEW

    Religious Education registration is available to families who are registered parishioners at Christ, Our Light! Parish (COL). Families who are registered parishioners at another nearby Catholic parish may also register for Religious Ed here. 

    Religious Ed Tuition

    The 2026-2027 Religious Ed tuition fee is $200 per family for COL parishioners and $225 per family for families not registered at COL.

    Tuition is charged only for 1st - 8th grade students. There is no additional charge for Sacrament Preparation. Textbooks, materials, and special events are included.

    Tuition is due by October 12, 2026 and is payable by check or cash. If paying in cash, please remit payment in person to the Religious Ed Office or to the COL Parish main office. If paying by check, please make the check payable to “Christ, Our Light!” with “2026-27 Religious Ed Tuition” written in the memo line. Checks may be remitted in person to either office, or by mailing to: Christ, Our Light! Church, 3077 Glouchester Ave., Troy, MI 48084, ATTN: Religious Education Office. 

    A late registration fee of $25 will be added for any registration forms received after August 31st. 

    Tuition scholarships are available. To apply for a scholarship, please submit a letter of request to the COL Faith Formation Office. 

    Schedule

    The 2026-2027 Family Kick-off for all grades (Preschool - 8th Grade) is on Monday, September 28, 2026. The kick-off starts at 5:00 p.m. for 1st-4th Grades and 6:30 p.m. for 5th-8th Grades. Families with Preschool and Kindergarten students may attend either 5:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. session. Parents are invited to attend with their children and meet the catechists. 

    Class schedules are listed below:  

    • Preschool/Kindergarten: Sundays 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Children must be potty trained at least 3-6 months before the start of classes. 
    • 1st - 4th Grade: Mondays 5:00 - 6:15 p.m. 
    • 5th - 8th Grade: Mondays 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. 
    • First Holy Communion Preparation: First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Prep are part of the 2nd Grade Monday class curriculum. Additional gatherings and retreats are noted in the Sacrament Prep Schedule, which will be distributed at the First Reconciliation Parent Gathering on October 12, 2026.
    • Confirmation Preparation: Confirmation Prep is a two-year requirement starting in the 7th Grade, with the sacrament of Confirmation conferred in the Fall Semester of 9th Grade. Beginning in the 2nd semester of 8th Grade until the Fall of 9th Grade, Confirmation Prep sessions are held on Mondays. Please refer to the Confirmation Sacrament Prep Schedule for class times, as well as additional gatherings and retreats. The Confirmation Sacrament Prep Schedule wil be distributed at the 8th Grade Retreat on January 11, 2027.

    Baptismal Certificates

    If you are registering any children for Sacrament Preparation, a copy of each child's Baptismal Certificate must be emailed and/or mailed to the Faith Formation Administrative Assistant. Please refer to the Sacrament Prep schedule for timing requirements. 

    Medical Treatment Release Forms 

    The Medical Treatment Release Form must be completed every year for each child before the start of classes. Upon submission of this 2026-2027 Registration Form, you will receive a link to the Medical Treatment Release Form.

  • PERMISSIONS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

  • SACRAMENT PREPARATION: If my children are enrolled in sacrament preparation (First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and/or Confirmation) this year, they will be expected to attend additional gatherings and retreats. These are an essential part of sacrament prep, along with regular Mass attendance and class participation. We will prioritize sacrament prep and faith formation activities, especially this year.

    Please note that the Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) has set forth Safe Environments requirements for all volunteers before starting volunteer activities. For adult volunteers, these include background check, Volunteer Code of Conduct, and completion of the Protecting God’s Children workshop. High school students who volunteer must complete the Healthy Relationships for Teens workshop online.
