  • This letter is to inform you that pursuant to the Technology in K-12 Public Schools law (CS/HB 379), which took effect on July 1, 2023, section 1006.07(2f), Florida Statutes, the cell phone policy provides that "a student may not use a wireless communications device during instructional time, except when expressly directed by a teacher solely for educational purposes". In compliance with House Bill 1105 (HB 1105), Miami-Dade County Public Schools has updated its Wireless Communication Device (WCD) procedures. Students in Grades K-8 are prohibited from using WCD during the school day with the exceptions of administrative approval or documented medical/disability accommodation. In most cases the usage of electronic devices can disrupt the learning environment and cause major disruptions. We understand that phones are used for safety reasons and therefore students can opt to ask an administrator or teacher to use their phone for emergency related concerns. Also, Students may store phones in the front of class on "do not disturb" in the numbered pocket chart that is in the classroom or on "do not disturb" in their book bags.

Wireless communication devices that are not stored away will be confiscated. Confiscated devices will be returned to the parent of the student at the end of the day. It is the responsibility of the parent to pick up confiscated phone from the main office from 3:50pm-4:30pm.

Wireless communication devices include cellphones, earbuds and headphones. They are also prohibited inside of bathrooms. During testing students are prohibited from having procession of any electronic devices (this includes smart watches

Students will not receive disciplinary action if they use their wireless communication device to monitor a health condition that is documented through medical records provided to the school including, but not limited to an IEP, a Section 504 Plan or a Health Plan.
