Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre is pleased to announce the 51st Katherine Prize, returns on Friday 6th November 2026.

If you're under 18 years old, we want to see your masterpieces! Whether you love to paint, draw, sculpt, or create digital art, this is your moment. Individual and group entries are welcome.

Deadline for Entry Forms - Friday 2nd October 2026 at 5:00pm

Window for Artwork Delivery- Between Monday 12th to Friday 16th October 2026

Opening Night & Awards Presentation - Friday 6th November 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

1. Entrants must be current residents of the Northern Territory.

2. Entries must be original artwork made by the entrant(s) and must have been completed during the 12 months before 3rd October 2026.

3. Individual entrants may enter a maximum of two artworks for consideration. This does not apply to schools.

4. A group entry is assessed as a single entry, regardless of the number of participants.

5. Entries must be clearly marked with: Artwork Title & Artist Name, selected age category. 

6. Details for returning artworks must be completed in this entry form.

7. Entries in the 51st Katherine Prize – For Young People are not for sale.

8. Artwork may be photographed and shared for promotional purposes. 

9. Entry forms must be received by 5pm on Friday 2nd October 2026 in order to be considered.

10. Window for artwork delivery is between 12th and 16th October 2026 during centre business hours. Work should be delivered to: Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre, Lot 3238, Stuart Highway, Katherine East NT 0850.

11. Entries must be packed securely for transit and in a manner suitable for safe repacking.

12. Artworks will be covered by appropriate insurance while stored or displayed at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre.

13. All artwork(s) must be collected within 7 day of exhibition closure. Any uncollected artworks may be disposed of in accordance with the Northern Territory Disposal of Goods Act.

14. All decisions made by judges of the 51st Katherine Prize – For Young People are final.

15. Any conflict arising in connection with these conditions of entry will be decided by Godinymayin, whose decision is final.

16. Artworks can be of any medium and should be ready for display in our galleries.

17. Artworks must not exceed 1.5 metres in any direction, inclusive of support structures and frames.

18. Hanging works must not exceed 15 kilograms. Artworks must not exceed 40 kilograms.

 

19. Entrants may enter a maximum of two artworks for consideration, with no guarantee of selection in the 51st Katherine Prize exhibition. Please complete a separate entry form for each work entered. Due to gallery limitations, only one work may be selected - please note your first preference in your entry, if entering two works. 

We actively consult with First Nations community members on cultural perspectives regarding all exhibitions, particularly the presentation of images and voices of First Nations people. Your work may be subject to cultural consultation and approval.
