This program is designed for current high school seniors who are interested in healthcare and want to complete the application and selection process with parent or guardian support.

  • Program Overview

    The BCYL Healthcare Explorers Program provides high school seniors with the opportunity to earn an Administrative Medical Assistant (AMA) Certificate through Housatonic Community College while participating in career readiness training, professional development, and mentoring designed to prepare them for postsecondary education and careers in healthcare.

    Participants who successfully complete the program will receive:

    • Administrative Medical Assistant Certificate
    • Eligibility to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Administrative Medical Assistant Certification Exam
    • Workforce Readiness Training
    • Career exploration and networking opportunities
    • Resume and interview preparation
  • Program eligibility requirements:

    • Be a current high school senior for the 2026-2027 academic year
    • Demonstrate an interest in a healthcare-related career
    • Be available for classes at Housatonic Community College on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM from 10/5/2026-02/03/2027
    • Location:Housatonic 
    • Maintain at least 90% attendance with no more than two absences
    • Be willing to participate in required workforce readiness workshops after completing the Administrative Medical Assistant coursework
    • BCYL will cover 90% of the program costs, reducing the student cost to just $300.
