• Lincoln Sanctuary Avian Adoption Application Form

  • Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in adopting a bird! At Lincoln Sanctuary, we match all potential adopters to individual birds. You may come in with an interest in a certain type of bird and leave with the love of your life you never knew you had. A rescue parrot does not mean a bad parrot! Many of our birds, even those who have had hard lives, are adaptable, kind, and lots of fun! Every animal that we rehome has a story, particular needs, and an unlimited amount of love to give. Adopting a parrot means you are saving an animal that may have nowhere else to go. Parrot rescues and animal shelters are overrun with animals needing homes, and adoption is the solution. Please note that filling out this form does NOT guarantee that you will be given a bird.
  • Necessities

These are all safety necessities that MUST be followed. You will not be selected to adopt a parrot if any of the below are not followed. Please discuss with your adoption team on how to address these problems and ask all the questions you need. EVERY MEMBER of the household must be aware of these safety concerns. Parrots MUST NOT BE EXPOSED TO HARMFUL AEROSOLS. If use of any of these products are necessary, have a plan to keep your parrot safe and eliminate exposure.

  • Adoption Fee

At Lincoln Sanctuary, we do our best to match costs to the needs of the birds AND the household. Our costs are all based on veterinary visits as well as the extra time and care that they need. All veterinary bills are required to be covered by potential adopters. We believe that people who are less fortunate should still get to have birds, but we also know the reality that veterinary care is extremely expensive for birds (300-600 for most of our visits.) Your ability to donate extra upon adoption means another bird gets to be saved. If you are not in a position to donate much, there still may be a bird here for you.
  • Veterinary Care

At the moment, to the best of my knowledge, there is no Avian Board Certified Vet in New Mexico. At Lincoln Sanctuary, our birds see Shirley Russman at VCA on Holly Ave. If you have another regular exotics vet, please include their information.
