  • Project Manager (Planning, Managing, & Delivering)

Zimmerman Building Company, a third-generation, family-owned construction firm, is looking for an organized and proactive Project Manager to lead our residential and commercial construction projects. This role owns the delivery side of the construction process, from signed contract through final walkthrough.

We specialize in new residential builds, renovations, excavation, and commercial construction. As we grow, we're seeking an experienced leader who can keep projects on plan, crews productive, and customers confident.

    What You'll Do

    • Define project objectives, scope of work, roles, and responsibilities at the start of every job.
    • Manage delivery of the project according to plan—schedule, scope, budget, and quality.
    • Communicate project details, timelines, and changes to key players: customers, subcontractors, vendors, and crew.
    • Collaborate with the foreman and customer to resolve project issues expeditiously.
    • Plan, organize, and manage field performance across active projects.
    • Identify and mitigate potential risks, working with the foreman to provide quality and safety oversight on each job.
    • Maintain financial project health through budgets, cost tracking, and invoicing.
    • Visit job sites regularly with foremen and customers to keep work, schedule, and relationships on track.

Candidate Traits (and How They Show Up in This Role)

    • Clear, confident communicator: You keep customers, subcontractors, vendors, and crew working from the same information.
    • Calm problem-solver: When something goes sideways in the field, you work with the foreman and customer to resolve it expeditiously.
    • Organized under multiple priorities: You manage several active projects at once, prioritize well, and finish what you start without needing reminders.
    • Financially accountable: You know where every job stands on budget, cost tracking, and invoicing, and you protect margin as the work progresses.
    • Safety-minded leader: You are committed to providing and maintaining a safe, substance-free workplace and you hold crews to that standard on every site.
    • Strong team member: You add value to the team rather than working around it, and people trust your word.
    • Positive and open to learning: You bring a good attitude to the jobsite and pick up new processes and industry software willingly.
    • Embodies our core values: How you work reflects the company on every job, with every customer.

    Technology & AI

We believe technology creates a competitive advantage. Our teams use AI-assisted workflows to reduce planning, estimating, and reporting turnaround times while improving consistency and quality.

You should be comfortable learning, using, and improving AI-enabled workflows, including tools such as Claude, Chat GPT, estimating software, take-off tools, and construction management software.

    What You'll Need

    • Experience in construction is required: you’ll be leading field and project delivery decisions that call for real industry knowledge from day one.
    • A developed leadership and project management skill set.
    • 4-year engineering or construction management degree with 3–5 years of experience in residential/light commercial construction. Extensive construction experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Experience leading residential and light commercial building and excavation projects.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel and the ability to learn new industry software.
