Welcome, Dear Valued Community Member!
We are glad you are here and considering becoming an Alekain Mentor. To learn more about our organization, please visit: https://alekainfoundation.org/. We invite you to join a network of professionals, academics, and students in creating an enabling support system that empowers our Afghan scholars
Alekain Scholars are Afghan girls and women between the ages of 15 and 22 who enroll in asynchronous remote classes in a U.S. accredited high school based in Arizona. Although the asynchronous nature of our partner high schools helps to keep our scholars safe and allows them to change their learning schedule based on electricity and internet availability, we know the remote nature of the experience can sometimes feel isolating. Thus, we are seeking a network of female-identifying students, professionals, and academics who can commit to providing regular and consistent mentoring to our Afghan scholars.
Mentors are expected to host weekly audio/video meetings with their mentees to support them emotionally, encourage them educationally, and build solidarity across borders and time zones. These meetings aim to ensure our scholars feel seen, remain on track with their academics, support college/career readiness, and promote general well-being.
If you would like to explore the possibility of becoming an Alekain Foundation Mentor, please answer the questions below. You will be notified by email if you are selected to advance to the next round of the selection process: an interview with one of our team members.
Please note, Alekain works with mental health professionals to inform program design and work with our scholars. Alekain mentors provide friendly support -- you are not meant to be a mental health professional and are not expected to serve in that capacity.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at engage@alekainfoundation.org
Please note that this mentorship is primarily for women who are college students or a recent gradaute transitioning to job market.
