Program Information
Welcome teachers. It's time for our second annual Pumpkin Smash!

This is an optional program between M-DCPS and Fertile Earth to educate and inspire students about sustainability and composting.

During last year's Inaugural Pumpkin Smash, we diverted 6,850 pounds of pumpkins, and this year our goal is to double that amount.

The hands-down winner of the 2025 Golden Pumpkin Award was George Washington Carver Elementary School. Will anyone dethrone them this year?
Program Dates and Cost
Collection toters will be delivered to participating schools on Friday, October 30, and then collected on Friday, November 6.

As with last year, we request a participation fee of $150 per school. This will help Fertile Earth break even for the cost of the program. (Our biggest expenses are the cost of moving our gigantic truck around the county on two round trips, plus the staff to organize the event, promote it, and operate the drop-offs and pick-ups).

This year we are also accepting voluntary donations for anyone willing to help sponsor a school that may not have the resources to participate.
