Dr. Ahmed Pirzada is the Associate Professor at the University of Bristol and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
Aimed at:
The EAG Associate Programme is aimed at early-to mid-career professionals working in either the government or the private sector, and university students. The previous cohorts included participants from government, think tanks, media, financial sector, academia and students. The sessions were led by Dr. Ahmed Pirzada, and guests lectures were delivered by practitioners and academics from the IMF, ESCAP, AIIB, University of Oxford, SDPI, IBA and the SBP.
Themes:
Macroeconomic policies: How should we think about debt sustainability? What is the role of fiscal policy? How monetary policy affects the economy in developing economies? Which macroeconomic policies can help achieve sustainable growth? Can we have a fixed exchange rate regime? What is the role of financial markets?
International trade: Is free trade good? What are its distributional implications? When and how should government intervene? How does political economy influence trade policy in Pakistan? Which institutions drive a country's comparative advantage?
Capital flows and currency crises: Why do countries run current account deficits or surpluses? What is the role of foreign exchange reserves? What can policymakers learn from the Latin American debt crisis and the East Asian financial crisis? Is IMF a friend or a foe?
Economic transformation: What drives economic transformation? Is agriculture a strength or a weakness? What explains productivity differentials between developed and developing countries? Why has Pakistan fallen behind? What institutional barriers prevent transformation? Does macroeconomic uncertainty matter?
Format:
4 online workshops and 1 in-person group meeting organised in respective federal and provincial capitals across Pakistan. For completion, participants must attend at least three online workshops and one in-person group meetings.

Fee:
We charge a nominal fee of Rs10,000 for students and Rs20,000 for professionals to cover the administrative cost of running the programme. We will request you to make a payment only after your application is successful. If you are applying as a student, we will also request evidence once your application is accepted for the programme.
There are also limited number of scholarships available on need basis.
