• Photofusion Bursary Places, Funded by The Grocers’ Charity

    Between September 2026 and June 2027, we are offering 12 emerging artists and photographers a fully funded place on a Photofusion course. These bursaries aim to support artists and photographers at the start of their creative journeys by reducing financial barriers and increasing access to photography education and professional development. Applications close on Monday 5 October 2026 at 12pm

  • Fully Funded Place on a Photofusion Course

    Successful applicants will receive a fully funded place on one of three introductory photography courses at Photofusion: Introduction to Black & White Darkroom Printing, Introduction to Colour Darkroom Printing, Introduction to Digital Photography. If your application is successful, we will provide you with a booking code to reserve a place on your preferred course date.

  • One-To-One Mentoring

    Each bursary also includes a one-to-one mentoring session with an experienced photographic educator, providing an opportunity to discuss your creative practice, develop your skills and receive tailored guidance.

  • Eligibility

    Our bursary places are for people aged 30 or under who meet at least one of the following criteria: identify as being from a Black, Asian or ethnically diverse background; identify as working class; or are experiencing financial hardship.

  • Selection Process

    Applications will open on Monday 7 September 2026 and close at 12pm on Monday 5 October 2026. All eligible applicants will be entered into a random selection, with 12 names chosen to receive a place. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email by 31 October. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide feedback to applicants who are not selected.

  • Definition of Working Class

    Arts Council England defines being from a working-class background as having a parent whose highest-earning occupation, when you were aged 14, was one of the professions listed below, or a similar occupation:

  • • Technical and craft occupations E.g. motor mechanic, fitter, inspector, plumber, printer, tool maker, electrician, gardener, train driver

  • • Semi-routine manual and service occupations E.g. postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, receptionist, sales assistant

  • • Routine manual and service occupations E.g. HGV driver, van driver, cleaner, porter, packer, sewing machinist, messenger, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff

  • Definition of Financial Hardship

    These bursaries are to help someone for who our course fees would be a genuine barrier to participating. We don’t require detailed financial information or proof of income, and the list below is not an exhaustive list, but to fulfil the definition, one or more of the criteria below may apply to you:

  • • I receive means-tested benefits
    • I am unemployed or under-employed
    • I am on a low or irregular income
    • I have caring responsibilities that affect my finances
    • I am experiencing unexpected costs, debt or a recent change in circumstances
    • I face another financial barrier that would prevent me from taking part
