Purpose
To uphold academic integrity and ensure a fair learning environment, Little Rock Preparatory Academy establishes this plagiarism policy to define expectations, responsibilities, and consequences related to academic honesty.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of using someone else's work, ideas, or intellectual property without proper attribution, presenting it as one's own. This includes, but is not limited to:
● Copying text, images, or multimedia from sources without citation
● Paraphrasing or summarizing work without acknowledgment
● Using someone else's ideas or research without credit
● Submitting purchased, ghostwritten, or collaborative work as individual effort Responsibilities
● Students are responsible for understanding and adhering to this policy. Teachers and staff are responsible for educating students about plagiarism and enforcing consequences.
Procedures and Consequences
1.Detection:
● Teachers will review student work for signs of plagiarism using appropriate tools and methods.
2.First Offense:
● The student will meet with the teacher to discuss the issue.
● The student will receive a zero or reduced grade on the assignment.
● A formal warning will be issued, and the student will be required to submit a corrected, properly cited version if applicable.
3.Repeated Offenses or Serious Violations:
● The student will face escalating disciplinary actions, which may include detention, parent/guardian meetings, or academic probation.
● Severe or intentional violations may result in suspension or other disciplinary measures. 4.Academic Integrity Education:
● Students caught plagiarizing will be required to participate in an academic integrity workshop or counseling session.
Parental/Guardian Involvement
● Parents/guardians will be notified of plagiarism incidents, especially in cases of repeated violations or serious misconduct.
Appeals
● Students may appeal disciplinary actions through the school's administration within five school days of notification.
Prevention and Education
● LRPA is committed to educating students about proper research and citation practices through workshops, resources, and ongoing instruction.
