Are you passionate about transportation, mobility, and/or biking? Move Redmond is looking for talented artists to participate in Week Without Driving and share their experience through a creative work of art! Week Without Driving was created so that people who drive experience firsthand the barriers and challenges that non drivers face on a daily basis. Using this experience, we can work together to advocate for more accessible communities. This year, Week Without Driving will take place Oct 1 - Oct 8. This is a great opportunity to reflect and document what it’s like to get around your neighborhood without the need of a car through a unique piece of art. Maybe your commute took longer than expected or you may find yourself noticing new things that you wouldn’t if you were driving.
Artists may use any creative medium to share their story including, but not limited to:
- Painting or Drawing
- Photographic series
- Sculpture
- Mixed Media
- Digital Art
- Music or other creative forms of expression
Some examples of what your creative medium can capture are:
- The challenges of what it’s like to get around with out a car
- The people and places you encounter while getting around
- The way you move through public space and how that can shape your daily life
- Visions for what you wish your community would look like in the future
Application Deadline: Wednesday, August 19th 11:59 PM
If you are selected, all artists are required to:
- Register and participate during Week Without Driving (October 1 - Oct 8)
- Create one short reel/ tik tok video during the Week Without Driving about your experience.
- Create an original piece of art that reflects their Week Without Driving experience by October 20th
- Create a short post with caption or a reel/tik tok video about your artwork October 23rd
Artists will receive a stipend of $250 that may help cover the costs of supplies and hard work! We encourage artists of all backgrounds and experiences to apply.
Youth 14 and older are welcome to apply, but if you are under 18 you are required to have parental permission
What Move Redmond will offer:
- $250 stipend for selected artists ($125 paid by October 1st, $125 paid after project is complete)
- Commute consultations to plan trips if you need support
- $25 preloaded ORCA Card or Free Youth ORCA Card
- Promotion of artwork on our social media, website and newsletter
