Proposed Expansion of the City's Polystyrene (Styrofoam) Ban
  • The Vista City Council is scheduled to consider expanding the City's existing polystyrene (Styrofoam) ordinance at its August 11 meeting.
The current ordinance prohibits food service providers from using polystyrene food containers for prepared food.
The Environmental Commission has recommended expanding the ordinance to include retail sales and distribution of additional foam products, including:

    • Foam coolers/ice chests
    • Shipping and packing materials
    • Pool and beach toys
    • Dock floats/buoys
    • Egg cartons
    • (Potential future consideration of additional foodware requirements)

The Vista Chamber would like to understand how these proposed changes could affect our local businesses. Responses will help inform our discussions with City leaders.
