AHEPPP Board of Directors Application Form

Any active member with at least two years of AHEPPP membership may apply for the Board of Directors.  All candidates must currently be members of AHEPPP and must maintain membership during their terms of office. Those selected to the Board will begin their term in January 2027 and serve through December 2029.

Include the following with this form:

• Current resume/vitae.
• Statement describing why you will be a good member of the AHEPPP Board of Directors. Please include particular skills that will suit this role, including minimum and desired criteria as listed in the Board of Directors Nomination Information. Please include the ways in which the candidate’s leadership will contribute to AHEPPP’s mission, values, programs, and initiatives. Limit to 500 words.
• Letter of recommendation from the nominee’s supervisor indicating support, including financial and resource support.

Responsibilities of Directors:

Each individual board member is expected to:

• Participate in monthly virtual board meetings and two in-person board meetings annually
• Attend and represent AHEPPP at events, work groups, and national conferences
• Recruit AHEPPP members and encourage their involvement in the organization
• Contribute to establishing annual organizational goals
• Participate fully in assigned committees or task forces
• Understand the organization's mission, policies, programs, and needs
• Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization
• Participate in the organization's annual evaluation and planning activities
• Engage in learning opportunities to better understand the communities served by parent and family programming
• Commit to one three-year term (with the option to renew)
• Stay current with higher education trends related to student and family engagement

Minimum Qualifications:

• Membership in AHEPPP of no less than 2 years
  Professional experience in higher education for no less than 5 years
• Evidence of commitment to higher education, including parent/family relations, retention, engagement, transition, student affairs, enrollment management, fundraising, or other related areas
• Institutional support to participate in two in-person board meetings each year
• Willingness to embrace a fast-paced, high-pressure, team-oriented work environment with an amicable attitude and ability to balance multiple priorities
• Commitment to AHEPPP's mission, values, and programs

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with leadership and engagement within AHEPPP programs (e.g., Mentor Program, conference or Spring Summits volunteer and/or presenter, committee membership)
• Contributions to the field of family engagement through presentations, publications, and workshops within and outside of AHEPPP
• Evidence of commitment to learning and growth
• Demonstrated creativity through the development of programming, events, and services at your institution, community, or in another professional organization
