Oxford's Cinema Story - Film Project

OXFORD'S CINEMA STORY

Working alongside local historian Liz Woolley, you will help research and create a short documentary exploring the stories behind Oxford's big screens! Discover the experiences of cinema-goers and cinema workers, collecting memories and uncovering fascinating local history.

As part of the project, you will film interviews and learn practical filmmaking skills including lighting, camera operation, sound recording and editing. You'll also visit the Oxfordshire History Centre to explore archive materials and deepen your research.

This is an intergenerational project for 16-25-year-olds and those over 50.

This is a free course and travel busaries are available.

Dates (7 sessions: Term Time Only):

Thurs 17th, Tues 22nd, Thurs 24th September,

One-week break then: Tues 6th, Thurs 8th, Tues 13th & Thurs 15th October 2026

Workshops held at Film Oxford, East Oxford Community Centre, Princes Street Oxford.

This is course is part of Film Oxford's 40 year Anniversary Programme LIGHTS CAMERA OXFORD funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Oxford City Council.
To enrol on this course you must meet all the criteria below:

- I am either 16-25 or over 50

- I am not in full-time employment or education

- I am not enrolled at University

- I am a UK resident
