• 2026 Hoʻohana Cohort Program Application

    Application Deadline - Monday, August 31, 2026 | 11:55 PM HST
  • The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi (JCCH) was incorporated in 1987 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a goal to perpetuate the Japanese cultural heritage, educate future generations on the Japanese American experience in Hawaiʻi and foster understanding among Japanese in Hawaiʻi, U.S. and Japan.

The Ho’ohana Program aims to engage, connect, and equip the next generation of community organization activators to create long-term sustainability in local grassroots organizations. The program consists of 8 months of training/exploration sessions including an expected off-island engagement opportunity. Past off-island trips included Maui, Colorado, and Los Angeles based on funding and alignment with that year's programing.

Reflecting the program’s commitment to community-driven engagement, Ho‘ohana Alumni played an integral role in shaping this year’s programming. Drawing on the experiences, insights, and collaborative contributions of past cohort members, Ho‘ohana Alumni have worked to intentionally design a program that reflect participant needs, strengthen community connections, and support meaningful learning and growth.

Participants will dive into the principles of Aloha and shared cultural values rooted in Hawai’i. Throughout the program, participants are expected to become activated and engaged cross-cultural community organizers with a strong sense of self-identity and place. Participants do not need to be of Japanese-ancestry to apply.
