The ƛuukʷatquuʔis Harbour Quay Light Up and The Great Sail Past is entering an exciting new chapter!
In 2025, the two major events merged into one exciting event, seeing thousands of people for what turned out to be a tremendous turnout!
For this year, we're taking the merging of the two events one step further with a rebrand: a new name, a new look, and a fresh identity that reflects what this celebration means to the valley. We are also starting event development earlier, and inviting volunteers to join us to learn about the event and how they can help.
If you would like to take part, join us Monday, August 24th at 5:30pm at the Visitor Centre boardroom. We'll walk through how the event runs and where help is needed most. We'll also take time to get to know everyone and the individual skills they bring to the table. All are welcome, whether you've volunteered before or you're just curious and want to learn more. Community development is a major part of this event, and we're committed to making sure everyone feels welcome and supported in taking part.
We’re looking for volunteers who can support the event in logo and branding design, marketing and promotion, sponsorship seeking, and event-day volunteering, including the tree lighting, working with Santa, the light parade, the sail past, and the free BBQ.
There's a place here for just about every skill set, and plenty of room to learn new ones. We strongly encourage those who are new to the community or youth to come take part, as we are not only building a thriving and vibrant event, but are working towards a bright future with creative opportunities for all Port Alberni residents!
