This truancy mediation course equips mediators with the skills and knowledge to address chronic absenteeism by fostering constructive dialogue between students, families, and schools. Participants learn about relevant attendance laws, the underlying social, emotional, and logistical factors that contribute to truancy, and strategies for early intervention to prevent legal escalation. The training emphasizes active listening, conflict resolution, and goal-setting techniques to help all parties identify workable solutions that support consistent school attendance. Mediators also develop the ability to manage sensitive conversations, navigate cultural and family dynamics, and maintain a neutral, supportive presence that encourages collaboration rather than confrontation.
Please note: Particpants must complete the 40-Hour Basic Mediation Course prior to attending the Truancy Mediation Course.
The October/November class will be offered via Zoom from 5:00pm-9:00pm. You must attend all 4 zoom sessions to complete the course. Sessions will be October 26th and 28th and November 2nd and 4th.
