Thank you for your interest in OPAC's Creative Tides Coastal Utility Box Art Project in partnership with REACH and the City of Port Hueneme.
Funded through the California Coastal Commission's Whale Tail Grant Program, the project will commission 4 artists or artist teams to design and/or paint utility boxes located throughout the City of Port Hueneme. Through vibrant public art and, just as importantly, community engagement activities, this initiative will encourage residents and visitors to appreciate, protect, and learn about Ventura County's coastal environment.
Four artists or artist teams will each receive a $2,500 commission, which includes artist design, community engagement, and completion of one utility box. Artist selection will take place in Fall 2026, with installation occurring in Late 2026 or Spring 2027 (anticipated).
