Information and confirmation

The British Council Palestine will use the information you provide in connection with processing and assessing your Expression of Interest for the HESPAL–Cara Fellowship.

The information collected through this form will be used to assess your eligibility and suitability for the fellowship opportunity. Your application information will be shared with the HESPAL technical committee and, for shortlisted candidates, with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara) to assess eligibility to progress to the next stage of the application process.

If you are shortlisted and invited to complete the Cara online application form, additional information and supporting documents may be requested and processed in line with Cara’s application and selection procedures.

If you are selected for the HESPAL–Cara Fellowship, relevant information may be shared with:

• Your Palestinian home university, including your name, fellowship placement details, and field of study, for institutional coordination purposes;
• UK host universities involved in the placement process, including your name, academic background, research area, and relevant application information, for the purpose of assessing academic fit and arranging the fellowship placement;

The British Council can hold your data for these purposes.

I. Application Accuracy and Integrity: I hereby affirm that my application and all supporting documents, are truthful, accurate, and complete. I understand that any significant errors or omissions in the information provided may result in the denial, withdrawal, or termination of the HESPAL - Cara Fellowship.

II. Fair Selection Process: I acknowledge that the selection process will be conducted fairly, and I shall neither seek nor accept any unfair advantage. The British Council commits to avoiding any unfair promotion or disadvantage to any applicant. I understand that securing an unfair advantage may lead to the non-offer, withdrawal, or termination of the HESPAL - Cara Fellowship.

III. Research Fellowship Purpose and Placement: I confirm that my proposed research objectives and fellowship plans are aligned with my academic development goals and research interests. I understand that the final fellowship placement will be determined through the HESPAL–Cara selection and placement process, taking into consideration academic fit, research areas, and availability of suitable UK host institutions.

IV. Entry Clearance Information: I undertake to inform the British Council of any factors, such as previous criminal convictions or associations with terrorist organizations, that may hinder obtaining a visa or entry clearance for studying in the UK. I understand that failure to secure a visa may result in the withdrawal of the Scholarship offer.

V. Changes of Circumstances: I agree to promptly notify the British Council and/or Cara if my circumstances change due to events beyond my control or unforeseen circumstances. While reasonable steps will be taken to facilitate the fellowship under changed circumstances, the British Council and/or Cara reserves the right to withdraw the offer if deemed in the best interest of the applicant, the UK Higher Education Institution, the Palestinian university, or the British Council.

Data Protection

Thank you for providing your personal information as part of your Expression of Interest for the HESPAL–Cara Fellowship Pilot Scheme.

We will look after the information carefully and use it to consider your suitability for the fellowship and to manage the application process.

It will be made available to staff at the British Council and may also be shared, where necessary, with:

• Members of the HESPAL–Cara Fellowship assessment and selection panels;
• The Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara), for the purpose of assessing eligibility, supporting the application process, and facilitating fellowship placements;
• UK host universities involved in reviewing applications and identifying suitable research placements;

After we know that you have a confirmed placement at a UK university we will ask you again for permission to use the information in new ways that will become necessary as you proceed to take up your fellowship. If you are unsuccessful the information will be held securely for a year and then will be destroyed.

In signing this Expression of Interest application form you accept that you will be bound by these conditions. You also accept that we will use the information you have given us in the ways we have described.
