  • Thank you for your interest in the Naturaliste Charters Marine Biology Internship for the upcoming Bremer Canyon Orca (killer whale) season.

This internship provides aspiring marine scientists and graduates with the opportunity to gain practical experience onboard our Killer Whale Expeditions operating from Bremer Bay, Western Australia.

Interns work alongside our onboard Marine Biologists, photographers and vessel crew while gaining experience in marine fauna observation, killer whale identification, behavioural data collection and science communication.

Our expeditions travel approximately 50 km offshore on the Southern Ocean, and days onboard can be long, physically demanding and unpredictable. While marine science is a major part of the internship, interns are also an important part of the onboard team and are expected to assist with general vessel and passenger duties.

The internship does not stop when we step off the boat. There is always work to do following each day’s expedition, including entering data, writing the daily blog and cataloguing sightings. While it is important to manage your rest, interns will be required to complete a minimum level of post-expedition work, including data entry and photo-identification tasks. Beyond this, the opportunity is flexible and we welcome any additional skills you may wish to contribute.

This Expression of Interest will help us learn a little more about you, your experience and your suitability for the internship. We accept interns will all levels of experience, so be honest – we just want to make sure you’re the right fit.

Please note that applications for the upcoming season close on October 1st. Those submitted after this date may not be reviewed.
