  • Southern Arizona Nonprofit Funding Assessment

  • In 2025, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) launched the first Southern Arizona Nonprofit Funding Assessment to better understand how a changing funding landscape was affecting nonprofits across our region. The findings helped illuminate the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and informed conversations with funders, city and county officials, policymakers, and other nonprofit stakeholders.

    In partnership with MAP Dashboard, CFSA shared these findings through two reports, Southern Arizona's Nonprofits Under Strain: Funding Cuts and Rising Community Needs and Innovating Through Adversity: How Nonprofits Adapt and Build Resilience. The assessment also informed CFSA's programming, funding strategies, nonprofit support efforts, and broader responses to sector-wide challenges.

    Now, one year later, nonprofits continue to navigate significant uncertainty and change. To better understand how the funding environment has evolved, we are conducting a follow-up assessment to measure trends, identify emerging needs, and document the ongoing impact nonprofits are having in communities across Southern Arizona. Whether or not your organization participated in the 2025 assessment, we encourage you to share your experiences and perspectives. Every response helps build a more complete picture of the nonprofit sector across our region.

    This year's survey is being conducted in partnership with the Frances McClelland Institute for Children, Youth and Families at the University of Arizona and its Family Advisory Council, as well as the Community Coalition for Prosperity (CC4P).

    Your participation is essential. The information you provide will help us understand how federal, state, local, and philanthropic funding changes are affecting nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Together, we can ensure that nonprofit experiences and perspectives inform decision-making, strengthen community support systems, and guide future investments in the sector.

    The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona defines the Southern Arizona region as all counties and tribal lands located south of the Gila River, including Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz, Yuma, and portions of Pinal County.

    What happens to my answers?

    We will collate all answers and report on them in aggregate and anonymously. We will share these generalized results broadly, including on our website. 

    Will you quote me by name?

    No. We may share quotes or stories you provide, but without using your name and only providing a generalized descriptor such as "a housing nonprofit leader." 

    What if I provide my contact information?

    If you provide your contact information, we will not include your name or organization name in our communication about survey findings. We may contact you for a personal and confidential follow up and/or invite you to a convening or other deeper conversation.

    Who in my organization should complete the survey?

    The best person to complete the survey is your executive director/president or a designee of your chief executive. We aim to get the broadest view of your organization.

    Should more than one person from my organization complete the survey?
