QUADROPHENIA - AUDITION APPLICATION & INFORMATION.

INTRODUCTION

We are thrilled that as a forerunner to our 40th year celebrations, we have been granted permission by Pete Townshend to once again bring to the stage NK’s interpretation of the Who’s iconic album, Quadrophenia 

 Set in the mid-sixties during a time of two conflicting youth cultures, the Mods and the Rockers, Quadrophenia tells the story of Jimmy, a young mod desperate to “fit in.” Let down by his parents, friends, work, and ultimately his hero, the leader of the mods, Ace, we follow his drug- and alcohol-fueled journey of self-destruction to eventual self-discovery. The title Quadrophenia is a reflection of the four distinct personalities that dwell inside the character of Jimmy.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Audition Date/Time: Sunday 13th December. 1pm start. 

Rehearsals: They will begin on January 7th, 2027. They will primarily take place on Thursdays, with additional sessions on Sundays as we approach the show date.

Please note:  Because of the content of the show we require all cast members to be 18yrs and over at the time of audition.

CHARACTERS

Lead Roles.

Jimmy: a troubled soul who is a dedicated Mod who loves his mother but clashes with his domineering father. Tired of his mundane existence, he is desperate to earn the respect of Ace, the leader of the local Mod scene. He finds escape through his motor scooter, amphetamines, sharp clothes, and weekend music gigs in Blackpool, where violent clashes with Rockers are common. Meanwhile, he is head-over-heels for Sandy and struggles to believe that someone like her could actually return his feelings.

- All of the above roles demand strong vocals skills, acting ability, and can convey emotions through physicality.

Versatile Ensemble of mixed age.

-All ensemble members must be confident singers and actors. They should be capable of embodying a variety of characters and demonstrate confidence in stylised movement, physical storytelling, and expressive performance. More information Below.

THE AUDITION 

When: Sunday, 13th December 2026.

Where: The Forum, Romiley

Time: 1 PM start.

 Group Vocal Audition

all auditionee’s should familiarise yourselves with the song 5:15 from The Album prior to the audition.

 Group Movement Audition

This workshop will be divided into different sections to ensure everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. It is designed to cater to a range of experience levels while allowing us to assess each individual's strengths.

For those interested in joining the ensemble, this is your opportunity to showcase your movement skills. Hannah is looking to build not only a strong and versatile ensemble, but also a smaller group of performers who are confident in stylised movement, expressive storytelling through emotion, and strong musicality.

After the above, anyone who is auditioning for the ensemble only and does not wish to be considered for a solo singing  / Lead / supporting role will be free to leave

 

Vocal audition (Please prepare the below):

* Jimmy - “Love Reign O’er Me” from The Who’s Quadrophenia.

* The Ego’s / Ace - A song of your choice that shows your range and ability with a strong rock flair.

* All other supporting roles - A song of your choice that shows your vocal ability.

* Ensemble (those who would be interested in solo lines ) - A song of your choice that shows your vocal ability.

 Please note that you may not be asked to sing your entire song. The audition panel may ask you to perform only the section that best showcases your voice.

Script work

For those auditioning for a Named Character(s) , you will participate in readings from the script.

 Show Fee, Commitment & Expectations
A non-refundable show fee of £30 is payable at the first rehearsal. This fee contributes towards the running costs of the production, including rehearsal materials and production expenses.

By accepting a role in the production, cast members are committing to attend rehearsals punctually, arrive prepared, and contribute positively throughout the rehearsal process. We expect all company members to treat one another, the creative team, and volunteers with respect, professionalism, and kindness at all times.

Commitment and reliability are essential to the success of the production. If a cast member consistently fails to meet the expected standards of attendance, commitment, or conduct, the production team reserves the right to withdraw their casting. This decision will be made where appropriate and in the best interests of the production
