  • Homecoming fosters a week-long interaction among students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. These guidelines feature information for student organizations wishing to participate in the Homecoming Spirit Competition.

    Your organization's participation will be confirmed to the SHSU email address you provide on the registration form.

  • Banner Competition

    Create a banner on a TWIN sized bed sheet that showcases our SHSU Bearkat Spirit. Banners must be in portrait orientation. Your organization’s name must be clearly written on the banner. Entries will be judged on the following criteria: APPEARANCE, SHSU SPIRIT, CREATIVITY and ORIGINALITY. (Points will be deducted for not following instructions.)

    Banners must be turned in to LSC 215 no later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Entries will be on display the week of September 14th-18th and will be judged on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Winners will be recognized with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recognition and awarded points.

    Points awarded:

    • Entry: 50 points
    • 3rd: +50 points
    • 2nd: +100 points
    • 1st: +150 points 

     

    Stock the Pantry

    Stock SHSU’s Campus Food Pantry as a part of the competition. SHSU regularly collects donations of non-perishable food items to distribute to SHSU students who express a need through MySAM. Items needed the most are foods you, as a college student, would like to eat. Each item donated will be worth 1 credit, but the following donated items will earn 5 credits, as they are the most desirable donations: cereal, peanut butter, jelly, complete microwavable meals (not frozen), mac ‘n’ cheese, canned tuna, canned chicken, soup (not ramen), canned/ jarred fruit, pasta sauce, and cereal/granola/protein bars.

    Organizations are encouraged to mobilize friends, faculty, and staff to donate items on behalf of your student organization, as any non-expired item donated in your organization’s name will count towards your total credits.

    A minimum of 10 items must be donated to receive 50 points as an “Entry” into this portion of the competition. Spirit Competition points will be awarded to the organizations that earns the most credits for food donations. Food Donations must be turned in on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM in LSC 230A.

    Expired food items will NOT count!

    Points Awarded:

    • Entry: 50 points
    • 3rd place: +50 points
    • 2nd place: +100 points
    • 1st place: +150 points

     

    Service Project

    Bearkats will join to support the SHSU Food Pantry by processing the collected food donations for an upcoming distribution. To receive points, service hours must be approved by the Campus Activities & Involvement Representative.

    Each organization participating in this portion of the Spirit Competition will be required to send 1-2 members to participate in the Service Project.

    Representatives will meet at the SHSU Food Pantry.

    Participation Requirements:

    1. Must wear closed toe shoes.
    2. Must participate the entire scheduled time 1:30 – 3:30 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026. Must send a required number of representatives to participate in project.
    3. Be enthusiastic and have fun!

    Points Awarded:

    • Entry: 100 points (points may be deducted at the discretion of CAI staff based on whether the organization did/did not meet participant requirements)

     

    Blaze the Trail Attendance

    At this newest homecoming event, 15-foot SHSU letters will be lit on fire as students celebrate homecoming with line dancing and other activities Organizations will receive points for members attending the event.

    Participants must check in with a representative from the Department of Campus Activities tent at the intramural fields. Participants may only be counted for one organization.

    Points Awarded:

    • 10 representatives: 50 points
    • 11-24 representatives: +2 points each
    • 25+ representatives: 100 points

     

    We Bleed Orange Blood Drive

    Join Fraternity & Sorority Life at the We Bleed Orange Blood Drive on September 16 from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM in the Lowman Student Center White Ballroom!

    Participants will provide their information to a representative from Fraternity & Sorority Life. 

    Points Awarded:

    • Entry: 50 points

     

    Sam Jam Social Media Challenge

    Organizations participating in this portion of the competition will be asked to pick up the organization banner from Campus Activities before 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in LSC 215. Organizations will then take the provided banner to Sam Jam, held from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM by the Holleman Field Complex.

    Organizations will be required to take a photo with the banner showcasing the event in the background. The photo must be uploaded to 2 social media outlets for Campus Activities & Involvement with specific provided hashtags. Instructions for how to take and upload the photo will be provided on the back of the banner.

    Points Awarded:

    • Entry: 100 points

     

    Homecoming Parade

    Organizations wishing to participate in the parade must submit the Parade Registration Form. Groups must abide by all policies listed in the parade guidelines. Entries will be judged by the university homecoming committee on the following criteria: APPEARANCE, SPIRIT, and CREATIVITY.

    Points Awarded:

    • Walkers: 25 points
    • Car (decorated): 100 points
    • Float: 150 points

     

    Bearkat Spirit Friday

    Organizations participating will attend our Bearkat Spirit Friday celebration on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Frank Parker Plaza dressed in ORANGE with your org for a group picture to receive points for this portion!

    Points Awarded:

    • Entry: 75 points

     

    Football Game Attendance

    After enjoying the pre-game party in Bearkat Alley, organizations shouldn’t miss the big game inside Bowers Stadium! Organizations will receive points for students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni or community members entering the game on their behalf.

    Participants (anyone attending the game representing your organization) must check in with a representative from the Department of Campus Activities tent in the Coliseum Lot. Participants' hands will be marked, may only be counted for one organization, and must show a downloaded game ticket as proof of attendance for the game.

    Points Awarded:

    • 10 representatives: 50 points
    • 11-24 representatives: +2 points each
    • 25+ representatives: 100 points
