This registration form is for a Outdoor Camping class, to be held at Camp Shantituck (Pines Unit) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern time on Saturday, Sept 26. Camp Shantituck is in northern Bullitt County, Kentucky, near the Brooks exit from I-65.
Outdoor Camping (formerly Camp Out) is an 8 hour class which authorizes GSK Volunteers to take girls camping in tents in developed campsites where approved water and bathroom facilities are available. Learn the use of propane stoves, care of platform tents, tent pitching and usage, tool craft, knots, care of aluminum pots, use and care of ironware, cooking by a variety of methods, meal planning and food preparation, and use of coolers for storage of perishable food items. Fee for the class (food and materials) is $10.
You need to have completed Outdoor Basics (formerly Camp In A) and Camping Indoors (formerly Camp In B) to take this class. If you need to take these courses prior to this one, check the events calendar for possible offerings of these courses. Generally you can find offerings that happen before Outdoor Camping is scheduled. Outdoor Basics also can be taken on line via GS Learn.
Once you have completed Outdoor Camping, you keep your certification current by one of these methods:
- Camping at least once a year at a GSK property, OR
- Take Outdoor Camping again after five years have elapsed, OR
- Take Outdoor Update
A meal consisting of a variety of foods is part of this class, and you will learn and practice several cooking techniques. Questions below will ask about any special food needs you may have.
After you hit "submit" you will receive an automated response from Jotform. The response will include a payment link. Your registration is NOT complete until you have paid for this class. This email will also contain suggestions for what to bring to camp and some links to some electronic copies of resources for this class; you will get print copies at the training if you want them. You are certainly welcome to take a look at the resources and the videos that are among the linked materials. You may also find the videos useful for helping prepare your girls for their first tent camping experience.
