Kid Kalculators – Rules & Guidelines

1. Team Eligibility

• Kid Kalculators is a TEAM competition. Every registration must include exactly 2 students. Individual entries are not accepted.
• Teams are placed in a division based on grade level: Junior Division - Grades 1 to 3. Senior Division - Grades 4 to 6.
• Both teammates should normally be in the same division.

2. Mixed-Division Teams (Please Read Carefully)

• Teams may pair a Junior Division student with a Senior Division student, but this choice is entirely at the team's own discretion and risk.
• Any mixed team will be placed in the HIGHER division and will receive the older student's question paper. The younger teammate will be solving problems written for a higher grade level.
• This may put the team at a disadvantage. Question papers will not be adjusted, substituted, or re-graded for mixed teams, and no refunds will be issued on this basis.
• By registering a mixed-division team, the participants and their parents/guardians acknowledge and accept this arrangement.

3. Registration & Fees

• The registration fee is $20 per team (not per student).
• A team's spot is confirmed only after the registration form is submitted AND payment is completed.
• Registration closes when capacity is reached or on the posted deadline, whichever comes first.
• Team rosters may not be changed after the registration deadline except in case of emergency, at the organizers' discretion.

4. On Competition Day

• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Late arrivals may not receive extra time.
• Teammates work together on one question paper as a team; discussion within the team is encouraged.
• Calculators, phones, smart watches, and any other electronic devices are NOT permitted during the competition.
• Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. Please bring nothing else to the competition table.
• All work must be the team's own. Communicating with other teams, spectators, or outside help will result in disqualification.
• Please treat volunteers, organizers, and fellow participants with respect and good sportsmanship at all times.

5. Scoring & Results

• All papers are graded by the organizing team. Scores are final once results are announced.
• In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker criteria announced on the day of the event will apply.

6. Buzzer Round, Trophies & Medals

• After the written round is scored, the TOP 4 TEAMS from each division will be called up on stage for a fast-paced and exciting final buzzer round. The Junior Division and Senior Division buzzer rounds will be held separately.
• The TOP 2 TEAMS from each division will be awarded trophies.
• Every single participant will receive a participation medal - no one goes home empty-handed!

7. Pre-Competition Q&A Call

• A separate informational call will be scheduled with all registered teams before competition day.
• This is your chance to ask any questions about the format, rules, buzzer round, or what to expect. Details will be emailed to the parent email addresses provided at registration.
• We encourage at least one participant or parent from each team to join.

8. Refunds & No-Shows

• Registration fees support Math Kangaroo USA and are generally non-refundable.
• If a team cannot attend, please notify the organizers as early as possible so the spot can be offered to a waitlisted team.
• No-shows are not eligible for a refund or a transfer to a future event.

9. Photo & Media Release

• Photographs and video may be taken during the event and used by Manteca Youth Focus and Kid Kalculators for promotional and community purposes.
• If you prefer that your child not be photographed, please inform an organizer in writing before the event begins.

A Note on Why We're Here

Come with the goal of learning something new and discovering how much fun math can be. Trophies and medals are wonderful, but they are not the point - the experience, the teamwork, and the curiosity you build along the way matter far more than where you place. Every team that walks in has already won something. Thank you for helping young minds fall in love with math!
