2026–2027 COMPANY REQUIREMENTS
AND MEMBER AGREEMENT
Acceptance into a Cache Valley Civic Ballet company is both an honor and a significant commitment. Company members and their parents or guardians are responsible for reading, understanding, and complying with all requirements inthis agreemnt.
For purposes of this agreement, “CVCB” means Cache Valley Civic Ballet, and “Company” refers to the applicable CVCB performing company.
COMMITMENT
Acceptance as a CVCB Company member constitutes a commitment for the full performance season, September through May.
Company members are expected to participate fully in the classes, rehearsals, performances, and other required activities associated with their Company:
Apprentice Company
- The Nutcracker
- Spring Ballet
- Spring Story Ballet
- Company Showcase
Junior Company
- The Nutcracker
- Spring Ballet
- Company Showcase
Senior Company
- The Nutcracker
- Spring Ballet
- Company Showcase
Ensemble Ballet
- Dracula highlights in conjunction with Valley Dance Ensemble
- Company Showcase
- Potential character roles in Nutcracker and Spring Ballet
Company classes and rehearsals are part of the attendance requirement, and attendance will be recorded.
Company members may have a maximum of two approved, excused absences during rehearsals for each primary production.
A Company member who exceeds the permitted number of absences should expect that their role may be changed or recast. An unexcused absence, or an absence during the week immediately preceding a performance, may result in alteration or removal of a role, suspension from the production, or dismissal from the Company.
AUDITION, SELECTION, AND CONTINUED PARTICIPATION
Auditioning does not guarantee acceptance into a CVCB Company, placement in a particular Company, casting in a production, or continued participation throughout the season.
Acceptance and continued participation are conditioned upon the dancer’s ability and willingness to meet the artistic, technical, attendance, conduct, communication, safety, and financial requirements of the Company.
CVCB may decline, restrict, suspend, or discontinue a dancer’s participation in Company programs or related services for legitimate, nondiscriminatory reasons. These reasons may include, but are not limited to:
- Failure to meet the requirements contained in this agreement;
- Excessive absences or tardiness;
- Failure to attend required classes, rehearsals, performances, meetings, or activities;
- Failure to follow the direction of the Artistic Director, instructors, rehearsal assistants, production staff, or other authorized CVCB representatives;
- Unsafe, disruptive, disrespectful, threatening, bullying, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate conduct;
- Conduct that materially interferes with rehearsals, performances, Company operations, or the safety and well-being of other participants;
- Failure to demonstrate adequate preparation, reliability, or professionalism;
- Failure to pay required fees or comply with an approved payment plan;
- Providing false or materially incomplete information to CVCB;
- A health or safety concern that cannot reasonably be addressed without fundamentally altering the program or eliminating an essential requirement;
- Other circumstances that, in the professional judgment of CVCB leadership, prevent the dancer from participating safely, productively, or successfully in the Company.
When immediate action is reasonably necessary to protect safety, preserve the rehearsal or performance environment, or permit CVCB to review a serious concern, CVCB may temporarily restrict or suspend participation while the matter is evaluated.
Decisions regarding acceptance, continued participation, suspension, and dismissal will be made by the Artistic Director in consultation with appropriate CVCB leadership.
COMPANY PLACEMENT AND CASTING
Company placement, production casting, understudy assignments, featured roles, performance opportunities, and changes to previously announced casting are artistic and educational decisions made by the Artistic Director in the Artistic Director’s professional discretion.
These decisions may take into consideration many factors beyond technical ballet ability, including:
- Artistry and musicality;
- Stage presence and performance quality;
- Maturity and professionalism;
- Preparation and work ethic;
- Attendance, punctuality, and reliability;
- Behavior and attitude;
- Ability to learn and retain choreography;
- Responsiveness to instruction, coaching, and correction;
- Physical readiness and safe execution of choreography;
- Role-specific and partnering requirements;
- Cast balance and compatibility;
- Demonstrated commitment to the Company;
- Production needs; and
- The overall needs and artistic vision of CVCB.
Technical ability alone does not determine Company placement or casting. No dancer is guaranteed placement in a particular Company, a specific role, a particular amount of stage time, or the same placement or casting received during a previous season or production.
Casting and Company placement may be changed at any time because of attendance, injury, illness, preparation, conduct, production needs, artistic considerations, or other circumstances.
Company placement and casting decisions are final and are not subject to negotiation or appeal.
The Artistic Director will not meet or correspond with dancers or parents for the purpose of debating, challenging, comparing, or renegotiating an individual placement or casting decision. The Artistic Director will not compare one dancer with another or disclose private considerations or information involving other dancers.
At the Artistic Director’s discretion, a dancer may receive general developmental feedback at an appropriate time after audition, placement, or casting results have been announced (no sooner than 14 days after results are posted). Such feedback is intended to support the dancer’s future development and does not constitute reconsideration of the decision.
Questions regarding schedules, fees, policies, or other administrative matters are welcome and should be directed to the appropriate CVCB representative.
NONDISCRIMINATION AND REASONABLE MODIFICATIONS
CVCB is committed to providing its programs and services without unlawful discrimination.
CVCB will not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, pregnancy, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law.
CVCB may establish and enforce legitimate artistic, technical, attendance, behavioral, financial, and safety requirements that are necessary for the successful operation of its programs, provided those requirements are applied in a lawful and nondiscriminatory manner.
A Company member or parent or guardian who believes a reasonable modification is needed because of a disability or other legally protected condition should contact CVCB as early as reasonably possible. Requests will be considered individually.
CVCB will consider reasonable modifications when required by applicable law, provided the modification does not fundamentally alter the nature of the program, eliminate an essential requirement, create an undue burden, or result in an unmitigated safety risk.

3. REQUIRED FOR APPRENTICE, JUNIOR, AND SENIOR COMPANIES — STAGE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Cost: $100
This fee includes:

PAYMENT DEADLINES AND PAYMENT PLANS
Payment of all required fees is due before the Company welcome meeting unless a payment plan has been approved in advance.
Payment plans may be available on a case-by-case basis. All approved payment plans must be paid in full no later than two weeks before the first performance of the season.
To request a payment plan, contact the CVCB Board President at president@cvcballet.org.
WITHDRAWAL, DISMISSAL, AND REFUNDS
Company membership is a season-long commitment.
No refund will be issued when a Company member voluntarily withdraws after the Company welcome meeting.
A prorated refund may be considered when:
- A Company member experiences a major injury or health condition that prevents continued participation, as supported by appropriate documentation from a licensed healthcare provider; or
- A Company member permanently moves away from the area and is no longer able to participate.
Approval and the amount of any prorated refund will be determined by CVCB after considering expenses and commitments already incurred on behalf of the Company member.
A Company member who is suspended or dismissed because of a violation of this agreement, unpaid fees, attendance problems, misconduct, or failure to fulfill Company requirements is not entitled to a refund.
If CVCB discontinues a member’s participation for reasons unrelated to a violation by the member, CVCB leadership will determine whether a full or prorated refund is appropriate after considering the circumstances and expenses already incurred.
Third-party purchases and expenses, including makeup, photographs, videos, apparel, processing charges, and other nonrecoverable costs, may not be refundable.
REQUIRED CLASSES
Company members are expected to take a total of four ballet classes each week:
- The required weekly CVCB Company class; and
- At least one section of CVCB School technique (two classes a week)
- One additional, approved ballet, dance or conditioning class
CVCB School will provide the additional third and fourth weekly ballet technique classes required for Company participation at no additional tuition charge for Company members who are currently registered and paying tuition for two weekly CVCB School ballet technique classes. This benefit applies only to ballet technique classes and does not include Specialty Classes.
Missed classes must be made up. Company members are responsible for contacting the School Director and arranging appropriate makeup classes.
Company members are strongly encouraged to participate in Pilates, conditioning, stretching, or another approved supplemental training class.
Company classes and regular rehearsals are generally scheduled as follows:
- Apprentice Company: Friday afternoons;
- Junior Company: Saturdays;
- Senior Company: Saturdays;
- Ensemble Ballet: Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Members must review the rehearsal schedule regularly because days and times may change throughout the season.
ATTENDANCE
Every dancer’s attendance is critical to the success of the Company. Choreography, formations, spacing, partnering, and rehearsals depend upon the consistent participation of all Company members.
All absences must be reported in writing by email to company@cvcballet.org.
When an absence is planned, it must be communicated at least two weeks in advance. Illnesses, emergencies, and other unexpected absences must be communicated as soon as reasonably possible.
It is the dancer’s responsibility to communicate an absence to the Artistic Director or designated CVCB representative.
An absence is not automatically excused merely because notice was provided. The Artistic Director will determine whether an absence is excused based upon the circumstances.
Each Company member is permitted:
- A maximum of two approved, excused absences during rehearsals for each primary production.
Company classes count toward the attendance policy when they are connected to Company training or rehearsals.
Every absence, including an excused absence, affects the Company’s ability to rehearse and perform successfully. A dancer who exceeds the permitted number of absences should expect that their role may be altered, reduced, reassigned, or recast.
An unexcused absence may result in immediate alteration or removal of a role, suspension from a production, or dismissal from the Company.
An absence during the week immediately preceding a performance may result in removal from the performance unless the absence is caused by an emergency or illness and is approved by the Artistic Director.
Company members should not plan to be absent during:
- The final two Saturdays before a performance;
- Required spacing or run-through rehearsals;
- Dress rehearsals; or
- Technical rehearsals in the theatre.
These rehearsals are essential because they allow the cast to run the production, choreography, spacing, entrances, exits, transitions, costumes, lighting, and technical elements as they will occur on stage.
REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULES
Anticipated rehearsal and performance dates will be provided before auditions in August.
When reasonably possible, detailed rehearsal schedules will be posted at least two weeks in advance. Schedules may be posted online, distributed electronically, or displayed outside the ballet studios at the Whittier Community Center.
Schedules may change because of production needs, casting, theatre availability, weather, illness, emergencies, or other circumstances.
Company members and their parents or guardians are responsible for:
- Reviewing the schedule regularly;
- Knowing the member’s rehearsal times and locations;
- Arriving promptly and prepared;
- Monitoring schedule updates; and
- Communicating questions or conflicts promptly.
Failure to see or review a posted schedule does not excuse an absence or tardiness.
COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS
Each Company member will receive one complimentary ticket for each production in which the member performs.
To use the complimentary ticket, the Company member or purchaser should provide the member’s name at the box office when purchasing or reserving tickets.
Complimentary tickets are subject to seating availability and any ticketing instructions provided for the production.
COSTUMES, MAKEUP, AND ON-STAGE APPEARANCE
CVCB will provide costumes for major Company performances.
Unless otherwise indicated, each Company member is responsible for providing and maintaining:
- Required stage makeup;
- Ballet shoes;
- Pointe shoes, when applicable;
- Tights;
- Undergarments;
- Hair supplies; and
- Other personal performance items identified by CVCB.
In certain circumstances, CVCB may provide shoes, tights, accessories, makeup elements, or other items as part of a costume.
All costumes, makeup, hair, shoes, accessories, and other appearance elements must meet the approval of the Artistic Director and Costume Manager, regardless of whether the item is provided by CVCB or the Company member.
Company members agree to comply with all performance appearance instructions, including the following:
- Hair must be styled in the manner directed by the Artistic Director;
- Stage makeup must follow the approved makeup design;
- Visible tattoos, including tattoos visible through costuming, must be concealed with appropriate body makeup, a patch, or another approved covering;
- Visible body piercings are not permitted on stage;
- Only approved post earrings may be worn;
- Rings, wedding rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and other jewelry may not be worn unless they are part of the costume and specifically approved by the Artistic Director and Costume Manager;
- Fingernails must be a neutral color and an appropriate performance length; and
- Costumes may not be altered, repaired, washed, or treated without authorization from the Costume Manager.
Questions or concerns regarding appearance requirements should be discussed with the Artistic Director well in advance of a performance.
Company members and families are financially responsible for loss or damage to costumes or costume pieces caused by misuse, unauthorized alteration, negligence, or failure to return items as instructed.
HEALTH, INJURY, AND SAFE PARTICIPATION
Company members are responsible for informing the Artistic Director promptly of any injury, pregnancy, illness, medical restriction, or other health concern that may affect their ability to participate safely in classes, rehearsals, partnering, choreography, or performances.
CVCB may temporarily modify or restrict a Company member’s participation when an individualized assessment indicates that the member cannot safely perform the essential requirements of an activity or role.
Depending upon the circumstances, temporary modifications may include:
- Observing rehearsal;
- Marking choreography;
- Limiting particular movements;
- Modifying choreography;
- Changing partnering assignments;
- Changing or reducing casting;
- Requiring additional preparation or conditioning; or
- Temporarily withholding the member from a class, rehearsal, or performance.
When reasonably necessary to evaluate safe participation, CVCB may request written clearance or information regarding participation restrictions from an appropriate licensed healthcare provider.
Requested medical information will be limited to what CVCB reasonably needs to understand the member’s participation restrictions and determine whether the member may participate safely. Unless otherwise required by law, the cost of obtaining medical documentation is the responsibility of the Company member.
Pregnancy, disability, injury, illness, and other health conditions will be evaluated individually. CVCB will not impose an automatic participation cutoff based solely upon a diagnosis, disability, pregnancy, or stage of pregnancy.
CVCB will consider reasonable modifications when required by applicable law, provided the modification does not fundamentally alter the nature of the Company program, eliminate an essential requirement of an activity or role, or create a safety risk that cannot reasonably be reduced.
Casting may be changed when an injury, illness, pregnancy, medical restriction, or other health concern affects a dancer’s ability to rehearse consistently or perform the requirements of a role safely and successfully.
Final decisions regarding performance readiness, participation, and casting will be made by the Artistic Director in consultation with appropriate CVCB leadership and, when reasonably necessary, information provided by the Company member’s healthcare provider.
OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES AND PRODUCTIONS
Company members are discouraged from participating in outside activities that interfere with CVCB commitments or create a significant injury, fatigue, scheduling, or health risk.
Company members must request advance approval from the Artistic Director before participating in an outside ballet production when that participation may:
- Conflict with a CVCB class, rehearsal, performance, or activity;
- Affect the member’s readiness or availability;
- Create significant additional physical demands;
- Increase the risk of injury; or
- Affect the member’s ability to fulfill their CVCB commitment.
When a Company member appears in another ballet organization’s production program or promotional materials, the member should request that they be identified as a “Cache Valley Civic Ballet Company Member” or “CVCB Company Member,” when an organizational affiliation is included.
Participation in an outside activity does not excuse a Company member from CVCB classes, rehearsals, performances, or other obligations.
CONDUCT, COMMUNICATION, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND ONLINE CONTENT
Company members are expected to demonstrate maturity, courtesy, professionalism, and respect in all CVCB-related interactions.
This expectation applies during:
- Classes;
- Rehearsals;
- Performances;
- Costume fittings;
- Photo and video sessions;
- Travel;
- Cast parties and Company activities;
- Electronic communication;
- Social media activity; and
- Other situations in which the member represents or is identified with CVCB.
Company members may not engage in bullying, harassment, intimidation, retaliation, hazing, threats, discrimination, demeaning conduct, deliberate exclusion, or other conduct that harms another participant or materially disrupts the Company environment.
Company members must use texts, group messages, email, social media, and other electronic communication responsibly.
Inappropriate posting, commenting, messaging, photographing, recording, or sharing involving CVCB, its productions, employees, instructors, board members, volunteers, dancers, or families may result in discipline or dismissal.
Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:
- Bullying, harassing, threatening, or humiliating another person;
- Sharing private or confidential information;
- Posting unauthorized rehearsal, casting, costume, or backstage content;
- Impersonating another person;
- Creating or circulating false or malicious information;
- Recording or photographing another person in a private setting without permission;
- Using CVCB’s name or logos in a misleading or unauthorized manner; and
- Posting content that materially harms the safety, operations, or legitimate reputation of CVCB.
Company members should understand that social media profiles, posts, photographs, videos, texts, and comments may be viewed, copied, forwarded, or shared by third parties, even when an account is believed to be private.
Concerns regarding CVCB should be communicated directly and respectfully to the appropriate instructor, Artistic Director, or CVCB leadership rather than discussed through gossip, public accusations, or hostile online exchanges.
Nothing in this policy prohibits a Company member or parent or guardian from making a good-faith report of suspected abuse, unlawful discrimination, harassment, unsafe conduct, or other unlawful activity to CVCB leadership, law enforcement, child-protection authorities, or another appropriate agency.
Serious or repeated violations of this section may result in removal from a rehearsal or activity, changes to casting, suspension, or dismissal from the Company.
PARENT AND GUARDIAN COMMUNICATION
Parents and guardians are expected to communicate respectfully and support the dancer’s fulfillment of Company responsibilities.
Administrative questions regarding schedules, payments, volunteer assignments, costumes, or policies should be directed to the appropriate CVCB representative.
Parents and guardians should not interrupt classes or rehearsals, confront instructors or dancers during Company activities, or attempt to direct casting, choreography, instruction, or artistic decisions.
Conduct by a parent or guardian that threatens safety, harasses others, or materially disrupts CVCB operations may result in restrictions on the parent or guardian’s access to rehearsals, facilities, communications, or activities.
When parent or guardian conduct makes continued participation unworkable and no reasonable alternative is available, CVCB may discontinue the dancer’s participation in accordance with applicable law.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND LIABILITY RELEASE
Dance training, rehearsals, partnering, performances, theatrical activities, physical conditioning, and use of studios, stages, costumes, props, equipment, and facilities involve inherent risks.
These risks may include, but are not limited to:
- Falls;
- Collisions;
- Sprains;
- Strains;
- Fractures;
- Overuse injuries;
- Pointe-related injuries;
- Partnering injuries;
- Slips and trips;
- Exposure to illness;
- Injury caused by costumes, props, sets, stages, flooring, equipment, or other participants; and
- Other physical injuries that may occur despite reasonable instruction and precautions.
The Company member and, when applicable, the member’s parent or legal guardian understand and voluntarily accept the ordinary and inherent risks associated with participation.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Company member and, when applicable, the member’s parent or legal guardian release and discharge Cache Valley Civic Ballet and its officers, directors, board members, employees, instructors, contractors, volunteers, agents, affiliates, and representatives from claims arising from the ordinary and inherent risks of participation.
This release does not apply to claims that cannot lawfully be waived.
The Company member agrees to follow safety instructions, disclose relevant participation restrictions, use appropriate equipment and footwear, and immediately report injuries, unsafe conditions, or other safety concerns.
