The Art of Dreams - Call for Art

The Art of Dreams - All Media Juried Exhibit at Lawrence Street Gallery 

Every night, the mind wanders somewhere the waking world can't follow. Lawrence Street Gallery invites artists to explore "The Art of Dreams" — an all-media juried exhibit inspired by the vivid, strange, and deeply personal landscape of dreaming. Whether it's the logic-defying imagery of a dream itself, the feeling of half-remembered fragments, the pull of a recurring vision, or the ambitions and hopes we call dreams in waking life, this call is open to wherever the theme takes you. We welcome submissions from artists at all skill levels and experiences, working in any medium.

We're looking for interpretation, not illustration — bring us your version of what "dreams" means to you.

Lawrence Street Gallery started in 1987. Run by artists, we pride ourselves on being a place where area artists showcase their work.  Located at 22620 Woodward Ave., Ferndale, MI 48220, we have monthly solo shows, group shows, competitions for our featured exhibits, and accompanying member work that changes every month. 

Your $35 entrance fee entitles you to consideration for entry to this show.  If accepted, the pieces in the exhibit will also be available on the gallery’s website for viewing and purchasing!   The pieces will be juried for inclusion by a panel of gallery member artists.

Friday August 28th - 11:30 pm : Deadline to enter online
September 6th : Accepted artists and work sent via email to all (estimate). 
September 23-26th: Drop off accepted work during Gallery Hours.  Pick up some postcards to hand out!

Show Dates

September 30th- October 30th - Show Open
Sunday,  October 4th: Opening Reception 2:00 to 4:30 pm.  Awards at 3:00 pm.
Sunday, October 18th: Mid-Month Reception 2 – 4:30 p.m. People’s Choice Award and Poetry Event at 3:00 p.m.
Saturday,  October 31 : Pick up Unsold work 12 – 5 pm. 

The monetary awards will be determined in person after the show has been hung and announced at the Opening Reception. 

Best in Show $150
2nd Place $100
Honorable Mentions $25 

A People's Choice Award ($75) will also be awarded based on the highest number of visitor votes received between the Opening Reception and the Mid-Month Reception- and will be announced at the Mid-Month Reception.

 

Rules for this competition:

• Applications and images must be submitted online by 11:30 pm on Friday August 28th, 2026. We encourage you to enter early! 
• You may enter once. Up to two pieces may be submitted with a $35 Entry Fee.  
• All entries must be for sale and have yet to be exhibited at Lawrence Street Gallery.   Prices will be at the sale price indicated on the entry form.  The Lawrence St. Gallery will take a 30% commission on all sales.
• Artists or buyers may not remove work from the exhibit before the end of the exhibit.
• Accepted work must be brought to the Lawrence St. Gallery Wednesday-Saturday September 23-26th. We need all pieces before 5 pm. Saturday, September 26th 2026 so we can hang the show. We cannot accept shipments of artwork and, therefore, require in-person delivery and return of accepted artwork.  
• All work must be ready for exhibit and appropriately wired for hanging.  Art can be no larger than 40" wide - INCLUDING THE FRAME- or weigh more than 50 lbs.
  Due to problems in the past, we cannot accept glass coverings- please use plexiglass in frames only! 
• Online Submissions must be sized no larger than 1200 pixels on the longest side. Resolution of 72 dpi. Each file size for each picture submitted must be no larger than 2 Mb. Please try to name your images LastnameFirstName_NameofPiece.jpg (or .png) to assist in file handling before uploading your pictures. 
• The Lawrence St. Gallery will exercise professional care in handling all entries. Still, we cannot assume liability for loss or damage caused while works are in the gallery’s possession or transit.
• All work is not picked up within 30 days of the pick-up date of Saturday. August 29th will become the property of the gallery. If the artist cannot claim unsold artwork on this pick-up date, arrangements must be made for another person to pick up the work. The Gallery must be notified if such alternative pick-up arrangements have been made.
• Artists whose work is exhibited in this show give Lawrence Street Gallery permission to use submitted images for promotion and display for sale on our website.
• Personal information such as address, email, and phone numbers will not be communicated to anyone without permission. If that is the case, the gallery will give the artist the contact info of the person asking to contact the artist.
   

Remember:  ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY Friday August 28th 11:30pm, but we appreciate if you don't wait until the last minute to enter.
