THE DETAILS:
CATEGORIES:
Participants may submit one image to each of the following categories:
Recreation: images featuring people responsibly enjoying public lands by hiking, backpacking, running, cycling, horseback-riding, fishing, hunting, or other appropriate means.
Landscape: images displaying the vastness or beauty of our public lands. Human presence should be minimal, if not totally absent.
Flora & Fauna: images featuring plants, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, insects, and all non-human living things of the Klamath-Siskiyou region. Special consideration given to photographs displaying a rare or endemic species.
CHOOSING FINALISTS:
Four finalists per category (12 in total) will be chosen by our staff judges. Photos will be assessed on composition, content, and creativity.
CHOOSING WINNERS
Following the selection of four finalists per category, the community will vote to choose one winner per category (3 in total).
Those who participate in the vote will automatically be entered into a raffle for a free SMC hoodie and map set!
PRIZES:
The twelve finalists will receive:
- A print of their photograph displayed at the Siskiyou Outdoor Store.
- A social media shoutout on Instagram and Facebook.
The three category winners will receive:
- A print of their photograph displayed at the Siskiyou Outdoor Store.
- A social media shoutout on Instagram and Facebook.
- A featured photograph in the 2027 Siskiyou Mountain Club calendar.
- $150 cash
TIMELINE:
Submissions open August 5, 2026.
Deadline for submissions is October 31, 2026.
Finalists selected November 7, 2026.
Voting opens on November 9, 2026.
Voting closes on December 7, 2026.
Winners will be announced at our Holiday Party on December 10, 2026.
ELIGIBILITY
- The contest is open to all members of the public of at least 18 years of age.
- Siskiyou Mountain Club employees or their immediate family members may not participate in the competition. Siskiyou Mountain Club board members or their immediate family members may not participate in the competition.
- The contest is for amateur photographers only. Professional photographers are not eligible.
- Images must feature public land(s) from the Klamath-Siskiyou region of southwest Oregon and northwest California.
- Images must be photographic and human-made. Drawings, paintings, or digital art is not accepted, nor are any images created or manipulated through the use of artificial intelligence.
- The photo must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, except for basic color correction. This includes but is not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame.
- At minimum, photos must be 2500 pixels on the long edge.
- JPG or JPEG format only (.HEIC iPhone files must be converted before submission).
- No watermarks / Copyright / Logos on images.
Participants who do not adhere to these specifications will be considered ineligible.
