• Debbie Fuentes Memorial Diplomat of the Breed Award

  • The Debbie Fuentes Memorial Diplomat of the Breed Award is awarded to individuals who have gone above and beyond in promoting and advancing the Arabian horse breed, following in the footsteps of Debbie Fuentes' legacy. The following criteria will be used for consideration in awarding this honor.
  • To be considered for this award an Adult person must hold a current AHA membership (Competition Card is not required).
  • A nomination form must be submitted by September 1 and must be accompanied by a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation by current AHA members (include member number). As this is a special, significant recognition award there will be a maximum of two (2) awarded each year. There may be years when there are no recipients. Previous recipients are not eligible for subsequent awards.

  • Note: An individual is not required to fulfill all 7 aspects listed below in order to be considered. Place "Not applicable" if that area does not apply.
  • 1. Long-Term Commitment to the Arabian Breed*
  • a. Minimum Years of Service: Nominees should have demonstrated a significant, sustained commitment to the breed over many years.
  • b. Continued Advocacy: The individual has consistently advocated for the Arabian horse, not only through participation in events or activities but also in everyday actions that elevate the breed's reputation and reach.
  • 2. Diplomacy and Relationship Building*
  • a. Effective Representation: The nominee has skillfully represented the breed in both formal and informal settings, building strong relationships with breeders, competitors, and the wider horse community.
  • b. Promoting Inclusivity: They have worked to make the Arabian horse accessible and inclusive to diverse groups, ensuring that the breed thrives at all levels (youth, amateur, professional).
  • 3. Impact on the Arabian Horse Community*
  • a. Contributions to Programs and Initiatives: The individual has significantly contributed to the development of programs, events, or initiatives that have enhanced the growth and recognition of the Arabian horse.
  • b. Mentorship and Education: They actively mentor and educate others in the breed community, helping to foster future generations of breeders, riders, and enthusiasts.
  • 4. Positive Public Relations*
  • a. Public Advocacy: The nominee has worked to raise awareness of the Arabian horse breed in broader communities, beyond just those directly involved in Arabian horse events. This could include media campaigns, collaborations with other equine organizations, or involvement in nonhorse-related community initiatives that reflect positively on the breed.

     

    b. Crisis Management: They have handled challenging situations, conflicts, or negative perceptions in a way that positively represents the Arabian breed.

  • 5. Commitment to Breed Standards and Preservation*
  • a. Advocacy for Purebred Standards: The individual supports efforts to maintain and improve the breed's integrity, genetics, and standards in line with the goals set by the Arabian Horse Association or other governing bodies.

     

    b. Preserving Arabian Heritage: The nominee has worked to ensure the preservation and continued respect for the breed's unique characteristics and cultural significance.

  • 6. Exemplary Character and Integrity*
  • a. Role Model: The individual is a respected member of the Arabian horse community, known for their integrity, professionalism, and positive contributions. They are regarded as a leader and trusted advisor in the breed.

     

    b. Legacy and Influence: The nominee's influence has left a lasting impact on the breed's future direction, shaping both the present and future success of the Arabian horse.

  • 7. Service to the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) or Equivalent Organizations*
  • a. Active Participation in AHA or Equivalent Bodies: They have taken on leadership roles or have contributed to the strategic development and success of the Arabian Horse Association or other related organizations.

     

    b. Support of AHA Programs and Initiatives: The nominee is a champion for the Association's initiatives, whether through active participation, promoting initiatives, or assisting in organizational growth.
