The operation of a municipal jail carries significant legal responsibilities and risk. Incidents occurring in detention facilities continue to be among the leading causes of costly civil litigation, settlements, and judgments against municipalities in Oklahoma. Understanding and complying with the Oklahoma Jail Standards Act is essential to reducing liability, protecting your employees, and ensuring the safe and lawful operation of your facility.
OMAG, in collaboration with the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO), is offering comprehensive training on the Oklahoma Jail Standards Act (OJSA) (Title 74, Section 192), which became effective on April 28, 2025.
The OJSA establishes standardized operational requirements for city and county detention and lockup facilities throughout Oklahoma. This training satisfies the state-mandated training requirements established under the Act and provides practical guidance on implementing the standards within your agency.
While the OJSA primarily applies to detention and lockup facilities, this training is also highly recommended for municipalities that operate holding facilities, as many of the concepts, policies, and best practices discussed are directly applicable to those operations.
