The Morgan Conservatory Artist-in-Residence 2027 Program
Overview
The Morgan Conservatory's Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program welcomes emerging and established artists from around the world whose work engages papermaking, printmaking, book arts, and related interdisciplinary practices. The program supports focused creative research, experimentation, and production within the unique environment of the Morgan Conservatory.
As a studio, gallery, educational center, and community gathering place, the Morgan offers artists access to specialized equipment, technical knowledge, and a vibrant creative community. Resident artists become part of the daily life of the Morgan, working alongside staff, instructors, students, volunteers, and visitors while developing projects that benefit from dedicated time, space, and access to our facilities.
The Morgan's AiR program is a self-supported residency. Artists are responsible for their own travel, housing, living expenses, and project costs, including materials and specialized technical support beyond what is included in the orientation and basic operational training. We work closely with each artist to develop realistic project plans and budgets that align with their goals and the resources available at the Morgan.
We encourage applicants to review our facilities and equipment before completing the application. Successful proposals demonstrate a clear understanding of how the Morgan’s studios and technical resources support the proposed project.
Residency Costs
Every residency is different, so project costs vary depending on the scale of the work, materials used, and technical support requested.
Typical residency costs include:
- Studio Fee: beginning at the equivalent of our weekly Studio Rates Materials: papermaking fibers, prepared pulp, printmaking supplies, bookbinding materials, and other project-specific supplies.
- Technical Support (if requested): studio instruction, equipment training, or production assistance, $25 - $35 / hour.
- The Morgan can provide resources for local housing options. Typical accommodations used by previous residents have averaged approximately $300 per week, though availability and costs vary.
- Travel and meals: arranged independently by the artist.
A limited number of scholarships are available each year for emerging artists to help offset residency costs. Scholarship opportunities vary annually based on available funding and partnerships.
