    Overview

    The newly-renovated Kingsbury Towers residential development in downtown Trenton, NJ is seeking original artwork to help shape a welcoming, contemporary, and community-centered environment for its residents. This acquisition initiative aims to purchase artwork that reflects the vibrancy, diversity, and creative spirit of the region while enhancing the daily experience of those who call the building home.

    Artists working in all visual media are invited to submit available works for consideration. Selected pieces will be purchased outright and installed as part of the building’s permanent art collection.

     

    Artistic Vision

    The building’s design emphasizes warmth, modern comfort, and a sense of belonging. Artwork should complement this atmosphere and may explore themes such as:

    - Community and connection
    - Urban landscapes and local identity
    - Nature, growth, and renewal
    - Abstract or textural works that evoke calm, movement, or curiosity
    - Color-forward or minimalist compositions that elevate shared spaces
    - Both bold statement pieces and subtle, contemplative works are welcome.

     

    Artwork Specifications

    The selection committee is seeking:

    - Original artwork (no reproductions or AI-generated works)
    - Two-dimensional works preferred (painting, photography, mixed media, illustration, textile art)
    - Three-dimensional works considered if wall-mounted and low-profile
    - Sizes: large-scale pieces      example (48” x 72”)
    - Ready-to-install  (framed, wired, wall ready)
    - Multiple works by the same artist may be selected.

     

    Budget

    Artwork will be purchased at fair market value up to a total of $8,000. Artists must include retail price, framing status, and dimensions for each submitted piece.

     

    Submission Requirements

    Artists must submit:

    Artist Name & Contact Information
    Artist Bio (150–250 words)
    Artist Statement or Conceptual Approach
    Up to 3 images of available artwork (JPEG or PNG, labeled with title and artist in the file name.)
    Website or portfolio link
     

    Selection Process

    A committee representing the building’s development team, design partners, and community arts professionals will review submissions. Selection will be based on artistic quality, relevance to the building’s aesthetic goals, and suitability for long-term installation.

    Artists will be notified of decisions within 2–4 weeks of the deadline.

    Call Opens: August 2026
    Submission Deadline:  September 4, 2026 at 3pm
    Notification:  End of September 2026
    Artwork Installation:   October 2026 

     

    Artworks, Trenton’s downtown visual arts center, is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Corporation dedicated to promoting artistic diversity through the culmination of creativity, education, and appreciation of the arts. Our exhibitions, workshops and events are designed to make art accessible to all, fostering community engagement among art students of all ages, professional and amateur artists, residents from both urban and suburban areas, and individuals ranging from lifelong art enthusiasts to first-time appreciators.

    Artists Agreement

    1.  Submitted works will be subject to selection by ARTWORKS TRENTON and KINGSBURY TOWERS. 

    2.  The submission process will end on September 4, 2026 at 3pm. No submission will be accepted after this date and time.

    3.  ARTWORKS TRENTON and KINGSBURY TOWERS assume no responsibility or liability for the artwork submitted or artist’s website content.  Accepted artwork will be insured once the purchase is complete.

    4.  All artwork should be delivered in hanging, wall-ready condition, which includes wiring or wall rigging (saw-tooth hangers are not acceptable).  Any works not-wall ready will be rejected.  Works that need to be assembled will be assembled by the artist.  ARTWORKS TRENTON and KINGSBURY TOWERS assume no responsibility or liability for artwork that needs assemblage.

    5.  I agree that the submitted artwork is my own.

    6.  I may not promote any organization, business or person, or other advertising in my art.

    7.  Any artwork deemed sexist, racist or pornographic will not be accepted. 

    8.  You agree that your artwork may be captured on video and by photographic equipment and may be used for marketing purposes.

    9.  All sales of art will be handled by ARTWORKS TRENTON. There is a 30% commission on all sales.  Works should be priced accordingly to adjust for the commission ( price divided by .70 ).  Checks for purchased work will be cut within 90 days after the close of the exhibition.
