By joining the GSF Hornets program, the player and parent/guardian agree to uphold the following expectations and commitments. All participants agree to respect the GSF Hornets' Christian beliefs and standards regarding sexuality, marriage, gender, modesty, speech, and conduct while participating in the program.
Purpose
GSF exists to help student-athletes grow in Christ-centered character, leadership, discipline, teamwork, and athletic development. Participation is a privilege, and players and parents are expected to represent Christ, GSF, the team, and their families with integrity.
Player Commitment
As a GSF Hornets player, I agree to:
1. Respect coaches, GSF staff, teammates, parents, referees, gym hosts, tournament officials, opponents, and all others.
2. Maintain academic eligibility and meet grade/reporting requirements throughout the season.
3. Attend practices, games, and team events, and communicate if I will be late or absent.
4. Work hard, be coachable, listen to instruction, accept correction, and develop my game outside of practice.
5. Prepare mentally and physically through focus, effort, rest, nutrition, conditioning, and a team-first attitude.
6. Represent GSF appropriately in my words, actions, appearance, attitude, and social media activity.
7. Avoid profanity, vulgar language, bullying, harassment, disrespect, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, inappropriate jokes/posts, or conduct that harms another person or the GSF culture.
8. Respect personal boundaries in person and in all digital communication.
9. Follow team rules and coach instructions at all practices, games, trips, team functions, and GSF events.
Parent Commitment
As a parent/guardian, I agree to:
1. Support and encourage my student-athlete in a Christ-honoring manner.
2. Respect coaches, GSF staff, referees, gym hosts, tournament officials, other parents, players, and opposing teams.
3. Help my athlete meet academic, conduct, and team expectations.
4. Communicate concerns appropriately and not confront coaches before, during, or immediately after games.
5. Avoid complaining about playing time to GSF staff, other parents, players, or in public settings.
6. Avoid yelling at referees, coaches, players, parents, gym hosts, tournament officials, or opposing teams.
7. Not approach my athlete on the bench or insert myself into huddles, meetings, devotionals, practices, games, or team instruction.
8. Use social media wisely and not post or share comments, pictures, jokes, or criticism that reflect poorly on GSF or another person.
9. Hold my athlete accountable for inappropriate conduct, social media activity, or digital communication.
1O. Support the team through service when possible, including concessions, setup, cleanup, scorekeeping, clock operation, driving, fundraising, coaching assistance, or other team needs.
Digital Conduct & Social Media
GSF is committed to a safe, respectful environment that reflects Christ in conduct, communication, and character. Online conduct between players is considered an extension of in-person conduct.
Players must not send, request, post, forward, save, display, or share sexually explicit, suggestive, harassing, bullying, threatening, degrading, or otherwise inappropriate content involving or directed toward another player, whether solicited or unsolicited.
"Online" or "digital" conduct includes communication through any electronic device, platform, application, messaging service, social media account, gaming platform, group chat, text message, image-sharing service, or similar electronic communication. Violations may result in discipline regardless of whether the conduct occurred during an official GSF activity.
Accountability and Consequences
GSF coaches and leadership will address violations of team expectations, program commitments, or standards of conduct with the player and/or parent involved. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, consequences may include a warning, parent/player meeting, reduced participation, suspension from practices/games/team events, restriction of a parent's attendance at practices/games/team events, removal from team activities, expulsion from the GSF program, or permanent dismissal for serious or repeated violations.
GSF reserves the right to take action necessary to protect the safety, integrity, witness, and culture of the team, athletes, coaches, families, and program.
Conflict Resolution
Concerns should be handled respectfully and at an appropriate time. Issues with coaches, playing time, or game situations should not be addressed before, during, or immediately after games. Parents should schedule a time for discussion.
When possible, concerns should follow the Matthew 18:15-17 process: first seek resolution directly with the individual involved; if unresolved, meet with the individual and a coach or GSF staff member; if still unresolved, meet with the individual and GSF leadership.
